Doesn't surprise me, Ajax did in the bar under my flat before a European match v United when I used to live in Manchester a few years back

Sadly one of the most important and greatest clubs in the history of football are tainted by a large quantity of violent imbeciles.
The contrast between the beauty and grace of the football played by Johan Cryuff and the actions of these thugs is immense.

Ajax are a shambles on and off the field at the moment, and this weekend was a culmination of 2-3 years of real mismanagement.
Lost Overmars, Van Der Sar, and of course Ten Hag. Overmars was probably their biggest loss. Various managers who have come in after Ten Hag have not been able to cope with the pressure. The new man Maurice Steijn from Sparta Rotterdam looks equally out of his depth.
Ajax have sold a helluva lot of players in the past 2-3 years and they’ve not been replaced with remotely the same quality. Bassey was a huge flop from Rangers. And they’ve spent big too by Eredivisie standards.
DOF Mislintat, who also had a chequered spell at Arsenal, was supposedly making the signings and not the manager. The final straw for Mislintat this week was the revelation that LB Borna Sosa had been signed by Ajax via an agency that had shares in a company owned by Mislintat. All very fishy.
I’m not really sure where Ajax go from here. Currently sat in 14th position, and are likely going to be looking for a new manager again in the coming weeks if things don’t rapidly improve.

The rivalry with Feyenoord is one, if not the worst in world football.

The final half an hour was played yesterday behind closed doors. Finished 4-0 to Feyenoord.
Ajax Chairman has also stepped down after being in the position for a matter of months.

When world football contains the likes of boca v river, Celtic v rangers, lazio v Roma, galatasaraay v fenerbache, red star v partisan I struggle to get on board with the above being one of the worse in the world. Maybe I’d be surprised.

You'd be surprised. The police presence for games is massive and away fans are escorted to each game...if they aren't already banned.
I should know I used to live in both Amsterdam and near Rotterdam. It's like going back in time with groups of fans waiting to jump others, broken bottles and knives.
Like many rivalries it also has a lot to do with religion, Ajax of course being traditionally a Jewish club.
Why these kinds of things are still happening nowadays I don't know. People just can't learn from history, or their mistakes.

Fair enough that. Having lived there yourself you have first hand knowledge better than I would. I’d love to experience the atmosphere.

Excellent article in the Athletic about the internal politics and continued on field problems at Ajax.
Hammered 6-0 by Feyenoord at the weekend. Feyenoord had 29 shots to Ajax’s 1.
The club has been described as being ‘on fire’.
Academy in disarray.
Their new CEO, Alex Kroes, suspended after only 19 days in post for insider training.
Only 1 guaranteed spot for CL football in the Netherlands, and Ajax are currently 5th.
A second year without CL football will mean further cutbacks, having already trimmed £30m from the wage bill after missing out this season.

Which is all a bit of a nonsense considering how much money they’ve made from player sales over the past few years - and for some decidedly average players too!

They’ve reinvested terribly, and the changes made to their academy since 2016 have seen PSV and Feyenoord start to bring better quality through.

one of my best mates is a Dutch lad, he's been an Ajax fan for 50 years - he's is fuming about things that have gone on.
