Strongest team for Newcastle or Luton?

Post by dibraidio » Wed Sep 27, 2023 7:22 am

I know that we used to play Saturday Tuesday every week in the Championship but given the importance of getting some points on the board and the quick turn around do we hold anything/anyone back for the Luton game?

Luton have a massive few days playing Everton then us.

Bournemouth are the only team that we can both overtake on points with a win. They face Arsenal but then have Everton, Wolves and us as their next 3 fixtures. Wolves face Man City at the weekend so we could go above them if they suffer a heavy defeat and we take 3 points from the two games without conceding too many goals.

Both.
I'm hoping Newcastle are over confident after the Sheff U match, and we can catch them a bit cold.
Spurs couldn't miss against us, then followed it up by not being able to hit a barn door against Sheff U. It wouldn't be the first time, it's also time our fortunes changed. We were second best first 3 games, but can count ourselves unlucky in the last 2.

Whilst the Luton game is clearly more important, the Newcastle game isn't a write-off. There is a point or points there if we play at the top of our game and keep it tight at the back. We should be approaching both games in the same manner with our strongest available teams.

It’s only a 38 game season. BOTH. Another International break to come soon enough.

I remember Mick Mccarthy played a weak side against Utd because he wanted to make sure they were fresh when we played them as it was a bigger game so with us having a bigger squad now would we do the same, I'm not sure.

If the season only lasted 2 games, they'd say players needed a rest for the second one. Even if they were subbed in the first.

Play the strongest side.

(On a related note, Guardiola is apparently whingeing about tired players having to travel by bus from Newcastle because they couldn't get a flight. The more players get paid, the tireder they get.)

Easy decision. Strongest team for both but with subs on 60-65 minutes.

Foster will be fresh for Luton.

Other than that, sods law if we rest players at Newcastle we lose to Luton, a bit like the Olympiacos / Fulham farce all over again.

Newcastle play City today and have only 2.5 days rest. Yes there will be reserves but not all. Cannot underestimate the desire of the Saudis to win a trophy. PSG next week too. So it is a good time to play them.

The strongest team for both - which might be slightly changed in terms of personnel for each opponent.

I think it''s harder to state what our strongest team is at the minute
