Central Defenders & Wingers !....you just can't have enough of them.
Re: January transfer window
I live in hope of links to full backs, a beast of a central midfielder and another striker.

Wasn't he meant to be coming last summer, but the talk was of an issue with his medical?

Not sure, I know we were linked with Dan Neil towards the end of the window though. It's not really what we need though is it, we need a 30 year old PL hardened guy who can lead the team not another prospect.

It was before we signed McNally I think.

Just looked and they say the talk of a failed medical was 'wide of the mark' and he chose Sunderland as he felt he could play a more pivotal role there.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 8:00 pmNot sure, I know we were linked with Dan Neil towards the end of the window though. I’d hope we’re loaning a few out and bringing in a few fullbacks / DM / Striker
Re: January transfer window
We lack a 6 ft 2”+ central defender.

One or two with proper Premier League experience would be helpful

You can never have enough players loaned out
Re: January transfer window
We need to ship a number of fringe players out and have quality instead of quantity or we are down.

Re: January transfer window
We need a couple of seasoned PL pros who can hit the ground running-we now have enough "exciting wide men" with the potential to grow. The new LeIcester manager has brought in a lot of youngsters but also Harry Winks and Connnor Coady, and retained Vardy and Hienaccho

Use this window to bring in a here and now player or 2.
Keep going for potential and they will all fail.

January window we need at least 4/5 positions targeting urgently.
Experienced CB, Rb, Lb and then at least two CMs and a striker

I’m not sure.
Historically, yes. Under Pace and Kompany, nothing would surprise me.

I’m not so sure. I suspect we will shift a fair fee out in January to raise funds.

Re: January transfer window
Jan is a completely different window, and we won't be that attractive if we're really struggling. We struggled to get players for these positions in summer.

Re: January transfer window
I wonder if Egan Riley will come back into the reckoning soon ? I see he's played 30 mins, then 45, in the last two U21 games.
Re: January transfer window
We need a Joey Barton type character. There is no one on the field to dish out any bollockings.

He was loaned out
Re: January transfer window
Said on several occasions we don’t have a leader on the pitch. I like a captain to be that leader, shouting, organising, giving out bollockings when needed etc. Steve Davis was one of the best I’ve seen at Burnley.

I’ll be surprised if we go for that many, even with the supposed investment. I’d personally prioritise a really strong CM before fullbacks.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 8:29 pmJanuary window we need at least 4/5 positions targeting urgently.

Think we have to go for quality over quantity now. One or two additions here is all we need (to be able to compete with the teams we need to, not the top sides). But not really young kids.

I'd like us to go back in for Sacha Boey at Galatasaray. Whether it's realistic I'm not sure, particularly if Galatasaray progress in the Champions League.

When Johnny evans was linked in the summer and people laughed, a player of his experience and ability doesn’t seem so silly now, we really need some organisation from the back

Me too. I was really excited by him during the window and from what I saw of the United game, a real prospect. Just what we need - strong and rapid.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 9:52 amI'd like us to go back in for Sacha Boey at Galatasaray. Galatasaray look well placed to progress at the moment though and imagine he might be out of our league by then anyway.

Re: January transfer window
Shame if he ends up out of our league but good to see us linked with that calibre of player. Maybe I'm stating the obvious but the points we pick up in November/December is really going to dictate whether this level of player is willing to take a look at us in January.NewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 11:51 amMe too. Re: January transfer window
Well I’d say if Galatasaray get through the group stages it’s a definite no. Will be praying for United for that reason and a quiet remainder of the tournament.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 12:19 pmShame if he ends up out of our league but good to see us linked with that calibre of player. But agree, the players we’ve been linked with and also signed have been phenomenal. Gives me a lot of confidence even in the scenario of relegation.

We could do with getting him back. Looked good when he came on for THB at Burnley last year and a lot better than O’Shea IMO.

Re: January transfer window
I was at Leicester Saturday and watched McNally play the whole game v Stoke. He showed authority and was contantly marshalling his fellow defenders, and he looked quite mobile, but would not say he was outstanding. He would provide cover for us, but not good enough to play in the PL, and suspect not a step up from O'Shea. A very competent Championship defender at bestdermotdermot wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 7:47 pmWe could do with getting him back. Re: January transfer window
We need a full back, a monster of a midfield general and a Striker, I fear we'll struggle to attract anything decent if we're cut off in the bottom three come January.

Re: January transfer window
priority is a striker as Foster is away on international duty with Zaroury but he's not in squad so to me we have to spend a bit to get a striker in and maybe a left back .
Re: January transfer window
I would be amazed if there is any more money to spend in January considering how much we spent in the Summer, unless we sell a few.

Very true. We have the Gary Cahill in Beyer. Now we need the John McGreal.
Tricky position to fill and goes against the grain of young, saleable assets so I can’t see it happening.

Re: January transfer window
Have you read the ALK thread?
Apparently we’ve had a c£90m investment recently, although I can see an argument that will be used to pay off debt/next summers instalments, but there’s equally a fair argument that there will be money to spend.

Re: January transfer window
Weren’t there also very credible sources saying we also bid for a Portuguese CB too?
Matt Williams has said we tried to sign other players so there must be some money knocking about down the back of the sofa.
Re: January transfer window
We are woefully lacking in midfield and at the back. So it’s somewhat depressing to see Kompanys obsession with wingers continue.
