Do we have any characters left in our fanbase or have they all passed away/drifted away?
The one's everyone recognises?
Or have the Rocky's been replaced with match day Vloggers that the youngsters know?

I don’t like them vlogs that the younger lads do. The one I did enjoy that I saw on the Turf was done by a couple of brothers who were Preston fans. They got ****** out their head in the cricket club before hand then hand some sort of downing competition at half time and it took about 2 minutes 30 to do half a pint

Blimey, that's a blast from the past. Remember him in the early Seventies when I went to away games with Brian Wren and Pete Hodgson, both characters in their own right. Anyway, Bobbie Driver, dressed in a long white coat, carried a rattle and wound the opposition fans up! Funny chap.

Knew Brian & Pete well. I recall coming back from Wrexham in 78/9, Pete sampled his first ever pizza - and pronounced it pizzer.
Both sadly missed along with lads like 'Sexy' Steve Mackriel who had the strongest Wolverhampton accent imaginable.

I remember Brian Wren and Pete (Scandalous!) Hodgson well. Perhaps you also remember Keith Rigby from Tod who used to travel with them on occasion?

Brian Wren gave up on us but Pete Hodgson didn’t. Both passed away too early and I don’t think Pete made fifty.
Whoever mentioned Bobby Driver must be old. He was the one on the League Liner trip shouting ‘Of course it’s tripe.”
Mention of Brian, Pete & Keith Rigby (Rigger) should also include Roy Kilby who travelled with them and never missed a game. Thankfully Roy dragged his son to the Turf as well.

I don't think Brian ever gave up on us Tony. He stopped coming to games after some sort of fall out and his pride, or stubbornness, stopped him from returning. From the many conversations I had with him after the fall out it was obvious he was still a Claret through and through. I remember Rigger and travelled to a couple of away games in Roy's Jag. As you say, both Brian and Pete taken too young.

Wrenny came and sat with us for one game years after he'd packed in going but he sadly passed away soon after. I think he was only 64 too. Really nice bloke who I got to know really well during the 1970s and the first half of the 1980s. So many of that group were lost far too young, I think Roy was only in his 60s too when he died.

We were talking about Selwyn at a recent meeting - over 12 years now since he passed away. His last game was the 2-1 defeat at Peterborough in September 2011.

I have a vague recollection of this.
I had this exact same conversation with my Mum recently about all the Clarets that have passed away in recent times.
I used to travel with Colne Clarets and the coaches were very ‘lively’ for a kid. I used to love it.
There was a chap called ‘Hodgy’- think his last name was Hodgkinson. He passed away far too early as well. He was always great with me, my sister and Mum, and my Mum said he would always shepherd us out the way of there was a bit of bother.

For about four or five years I sat next to two blokes. We never really spoke much but god they made me laugh. One game against Norwich when for what felt like the full ninety minutes they made jokes and chants about Lee Croft's massive head. Silly and must've been about fifteen years now but still makes me laugh remembering it. We all have those people around us, not friends as such, people you just recognise, who become as much a part of the match than what happens on the pitch.

Norman Jones was definitely a character.
Not sure he was the nicest of human beings shall we say.
I was at St Teds and playing for the first eleven in upper 6th form (so 17 or 18 year old). For some reason the headteacher (Gerry Martland) agreed we would play a team of adults who had formed a team from unemployed blokes at the job centre.
Norman Jones played - and they tried to kick the living shite out of us. We won 6-0 I think but could not wait to get off that pitch…..funny how Norman was playing. I thought he had a job as a coach driver !

One person not mentioned on here was my old friend Brian Lucas. I'm not sure anyone who travelled to away games back in the 1960s, 70s and 80s didn't know him.
I could write a book about his antics over the years but one story prior to me knowing him cost him his job. He wanted to go to the Fairs Cup tie in Frankfurt but he couldn't get time off work. Not to be beaten, he went off sick. He'd have got away with it too had the photograph below not appeared in the Burnley Express. Brian - Dustbin to those who knew him from the 60s, then Monster and finally Box Car - received his cards on his return home.
He always wanted a word with referees too and after a defeat at Fulham he decided the referee had cost us. "You're a cheat," he bellowed at the ref as they left the field at the end. The fool of a referee (Eric Read from Bristol) decided to respond and shouted back: "Your problem is you're biased." Not to be outdone, Brian screamed at him: "To true I'm biased and I haven't come all this way to see you ******* cheat us."
Brian is on the left of the picture, almost looking young there (he'd have been 19 at the time), Malcolm Moss (who still watches us) is third and second from the right was a bloke from Preston whose name I can't recall but we always called him Preston Prick.

It’s the claret and blue college scarves that make them look like students. These were slightly more expensive than the traditional bar scarves in the club shop. They were decent scarves but after a few years the stitching came apart where the thin blue stripes met the claret.
