Bill Kenwright RIP

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Oct 24, 2023 5:15 pm

Sad news from Everton this afternoon with the death of chairman Bill Kenwright. He passed away peacefully last night at the age of 78.

I know he became unpopular with the Everton fans during this Moshiri period but he was a good Everton chairman for many years.

You're right, Tony.

He always seemed to me to be a good man.

As you know, he spoke at Anfield ten years ago during a ceremony dedicated to Hillsborough. He spoke from the heart as only a true Liverpudlian could have done. And, if for nothing else, he should be remembered for this speech.

He was a chairman who cared about his club as much as any other Evertonian. He walked past us on Boxing Day 2019 taking some food to the Fans Foodbank Collection and I know from talking to people I know at Everton just what a good bloke they thought he was.

He's been battling cancer recently but it's not that long since he was at Goodison.

He seemed like a genuine passionate Evertonian. Hope some of those fellow scousers who insulted and vilified him have some common decency now and leave his family to grieve,or don't become two faced wailers putting scarves and flowers outside Goodison.
RIP.

Always came over to me as others have said a BK type chairman who was Everton through and through. I imagine the two BK's would stll be holding the reins had it not been for the ridiculous money needed these days to maintain top flight football (and I am ignoring our Bk's ill health that led to him stepping down)
RIP Mr Kenwright. You served your club as well as you could

Indeed, mdd2. An excellent comparison if I may say so.

Will be missed in Theatre Land
My wife and I often go to Windsor Theatre ( one of Bill's venues) and saw him and Jenny Seabrook his partner several times while watching shows

You are right, Bosscat. Thanks for the correction. Also famous actress. Lots of charity methinks, as well.

Just looked on the Everton Grand Old Lady site and there are still some of the fans coming out with horrible comments,I can remember despising Bob Lord ,but a death isn’t just about the deceased it’s the relatives that people should respect and show a bit of reverence.

Just left my condolences and expressed the hope Everton fans can now concentrate on the many good years of dedicated service he gave building the club. Another sad loss.

Rest in peace Bill.

Just been reading about two of his charitable donations and how great he was with Bradley Lowery's family. He gave 200k to try to get him treatment abroad but sadly he didn't make it, so it went to his foundation.
The other was to the twitter user Shitscaredmum's daughter Laura, who needed a brain scan. He donated 50k without any fuss or publicity.

Seemed a top man.

Pay there respects? They was sending him death threats not so long ago, wasn't they spitting at him also? Or was that a different board member

Paying their respects to a life long fan, chairman and director who was unable to attend matches at the club he loved due to threats from those same fans? They do not deserve such a decent man. Two faced hypocrits.

Let's hope that all Claret's fans show respect and behave in a proper manner. Sean Dyche wrote a good tribute, it's on the BBC site, and mentioned the respect Bill Kenwright showed to him and Burnley FC when SD was our manager. RIP
