THB played 27 minutes
Tella played 20 mins
Maatsen was not even in the squad.

Yesterday we were a shadow of the team in January yet a lot of the same players were on the pitch for both sides. They were a poor side back then and their results this season show they are not much better now. Yet they played us off the park yesterday…..and we played them off the park last January.

That’s what belief and unity gets you.

When you play new players, that aren’t any better (in some cases worse) ahead of those that have done well for the team and make wholesale changes thats what you get.

It was obvious to anyone that’s watched Burnley/football for a sustained period of time.

Sadly the momentum and spirit that we had at the end of last season has gone as a result of a bizarre summer transfer window that has weakened the team. I know it was another era but the 1973 promotion side added only Peter Noble to the squad that went up. In the subsequent 1st division season we nearly got into Europe, won the FA Charity Shield and reached the semi-final of the FA Cup. We should have adhered a little to that philosophy of stability when planning for the current season.

It was a long time ago, a different footballing and economic landscape but even back then our time in the top league was unsustainably short lived.
It needs a canny manager to keep a smaller club in the PL longer term. Love it or hate it Dycheball found us enjoying the heady heights of European football until the Chairmen got board and decided to sell up. Referring to the OP it was the right system, right players.
