Just come across an article in the Athletic about a Liverpool fan called “Taggy” who’s just clocked-up 1,000 consecutive games (Covid excepted) going back to 2005. Pales next to Dave Burnley’s claimed run starting in the early 70’s, but made me wonder, is his run still going? (Again, obviously not including the Covid lock-out).

He only missed one match I believe up to Covid. Think it was the afternoon Texaco Cup tie against Norwich City circa 1973? I skived school that afternoon to watch it.

Close Jamesy 10 April 1974. Newcastle 1 Burnley 2. Hastily rearranged game on Saturday or Sunday for the following Wednesday. If you didn't know a player or someone at the club you never had known it was taking place. I was there and take great pleasure in mentioning it to DB everytime I see him which is most home games.

How do Liverpool choose their away fans? Is it ballots like United or ST and having been to the last 20 away away game credits like Everton?
You would think it pretty much impossible to go to every single away game at a big club with such demand.

Whenever I see the term 'superfans', be it sport, music or film, weird-obsession springs to mind.

I’d class my dad has a super fan - he’s not missed a game home or away for 45 seasons.
The club gave him a signed shirt after the 40th season and he got to meet Sean.
He never moans or winges or anything if we get beat and can’t sleep the night before a game !
A True Claret

The game was actually only arranged on the Monday and the only way fans got to hear of it was in the Burnley Express on the Tuesday, the day before the game. Not much use to Dave of course, living out of the area as he did. I wasn't able to go but Viscount Central did run a coach, leaving Burnley Bus Station at 2.15 pm for the now laughable cost of £1.50 for a seat!

Some of us will remember an old chap called Herman Wood who travelled with the Supporters' Club to all the away games. On one occasion at Charlton (cup tie?) they had parked the coaches away from the ground and he got a lift back in a police van.
He died the day after attending a pre-season friendly away to either Forfar or Falkirk, I believe (definitely a Scottish club).

He was always respectfully referred to as 'Mr Wood" & it was after a friendly at Falkirk in I think 1994.
