How many points...

...do you think will we finish with this season?

We're on pace for 12.67 points - I think (hope) we will pickup more than that

I can't see more than 25 in all honesty - I think around 22 +- 4points

It's not the points...it's the prize of finishing 17th that matters.

Well the lowest ever point score to stay up was 30 points - so barring very unusual circumstances it's fair to say that anything under 30 points would probably have us relegated.

Don't think that would be too far short of the mark.
Whether it would be enough, who knows?

By the time we play Luton at home mid January I'd say around six or seven, God knows by the end of the season if we stick with Trafford and Kompany doesn't see what's wrong

As long as it’s more than Derby’s record low, then I don’t really care. 15 points and 17th will be fine.

A point a game from now on would give us 30 points. I think that's doable, can't see us getting any more than that.

I think our worst first 19 was 18-19 season with 12 points then 13 the 21-22 season
With our defence shipping 30 in 12 and 18 of those on the Turf unless he tightens this up and I just dont see it
We are going out with our lowest points tally in our 9 seasons in this league and the poorest goal difference.
We have some talented young players but personally the manager and his staff are not coaching them for this league
After 12 games there is absolutely no evidence that this defence is improving. 15 goals shipped in first and second six matches
Eight of the 10 games lost by 2 or more goals. We are not even nearly turning a corner looking at these results.
We will only start to improve once we stop teams scoring. Still no clean sheets.

With Trafford 18 to 22 ish, with a solid keeper 38 to 40 absolute maximum as we are well into the season.

I haven't updated the stats to include the Arsenal result but prior to this weekend we had averaged 0.3 points per game. Assuming 37 points puts us in with a shout we needed to be averaging 1.2 points per game.

19 possibly 20 points ( and rock bottom) if we have an up turn in form. This is based on us keeping the same approach and manager. Awful season so far.

It doesn't matter on any exact number but it's important to keep in touching distance, the target should be the safety line without thinking about anything else which is bournemouth.

Coolclaret, you are full of negativity. Endless negative posts and threads. I’m guessing you are 12 years old or suffering from some sort of trauma. Did you like the safety of the Championship? Did you like beating Huddersfield rather than losing to Arsenal or Manchester City?

What sort of post is this? ‘Endless posts and threads’ - aye alright then.. just one of my threads on the front page (this one)

It was just to gauge people’s opinions on what was a Sunday afternoon.

No comment on the thread I’ve started after (I believe the) Bournemouth game labelled, ‘the positives’.

I’m not going overboard or with hyperbole - just think that the season so far has been very poor & the signings have been toss (for the most part).

What do you want me to say? ‘Oh we were brilliant today and we’re gonna fly up the table’ - because that would be me being fake

How many points? Not many more if we keep leaking 3 goals per game! I literally close my eyes when we’re defending corners at the moment! 🤣

I read yesterday that Saturday was the first time we'd conceded from corners, I haven't checked if that's correct, but if it is perhaps you could sneak a glance at the next one.

First headed goals we’ve conceded this season in the league. I don’t think we’d conceded directly from a corner in the league until Saturday either, but if we have, it certainly hasn’t been a common occurrence.

We conceded a similar ‘goal’ from a corner against Man United, but it was ruled out for offside against Hojlund.

Either way, it’s a definite weak area.

We don’t, you sarcastic prat, but the point is it’s a definite weakness with the goalkeeper and defensive set up.

Who knows how many points will be needed but unless there is a dramatic improvement in results soon we won't have anywhere near the number required.

Our previous worst at this stage (12 games) in the Premier League was 9 points in 2014/15, 2018/19 and 2021/22 and we went down in two of those seasons.

2018/19 was the remarkable one - 12 points at half way and then another 28 points in the second half and that was followed by 54 points in the following season. So from the West Ham game in December 2018 we went on to win 82 points from the next 55 games before losing the final two in 2019/20. That sort of recovery won't happen this season and we just have to hope we finish top of that bottom four.

i never think how many points we will need as it's one game at a time, but if we don't change
gk and give Muric a chance to see how he performs i feel we probably will go down , and that's my own opinion and after talking to my Bolton mates they can't believe he's the same gk who was on loan last season with them but it's a massive step up from league one to Premier league as some of our players are finding out who played well in the championship.

Interesting that we have only conceded the once from a corner, but I wonder how many chances we have given away from set plays including corners? Either way, we do seem fallible in these moments.

Call it an observation then, but I don’t feel a sense of confidence shall we say when we are defending set plays of any sort at the moment. That, along with giving the ball away in our own half/third and lack of goals scored are three areas that are killing us at the moment as far as I can tell and in my opinion. As per VK’s own observations, the defensive bit should be easier to sort and if we don’t……….?

It will be interesting to see how we fair against our next two opponents who are naturally aggressive and effective from set plays. Fingers crossed we can keep things tighter because conceding 2-3 goals per game isn’t going to end well is it?
