I very rarely go to the pub anymore. Mainly due to having a family and trying to stay fit, however the cost of a pint also puts me off.

My work Xmas do is one of those god awful dinner dance things at a hotel, and alongside not really wanting to socialise with work people outside of work, the price also puts me off. In a hotel it’s going to be over 5 quid a pint, so you’re talking over 40 quid just for beer if I give it a good innings. On top of that there’s the price of the ticket for poor food and likely poorer entertainment, plus taxis etc. it’s not worth the hangover


My local in Leeds used to charge between 3.50 and 4 quid a pint. Now the cheapest beer is 4:75 a pint.


Also cask ale used to be a cheap option and it suited me as I prefer beer that tastes of something rather than a generic Italian larger, but even cask ale costs close to and over a fiver.


There is a Wetherspoons near me but it’s bloody grim in there.

Don't know the individual prices but I bought 4 drinks at my local boozer and it came to £36. And one of them was a coke

About £5, which doesn't seem bad as the Mrs drinks Old Fashioned and they are around £11 a go

In my village here in Ireland you get a pint of Guinness for €5 , now Galway City it's €6 to €7 depends where you drink .

Cheap place - Stella about a 4.80
Normal place - Peroni £5.35
Expensive place - Peroni £6.20 + 10% if you're stupid enough to order your kid some food at the same time then everything has a 10% "tip" on it

My niece lives in London her and her boyfriend spend £16 per round for a Gin and a pint £7 for the beer £9 for the Gin (Gin used to be mothers ruin as so cheap)
Daughter and one son live in Manchester £6.50 for a pint round the christmas market . I really could not afford to get ******

I drink most of my beer at the local golf club here in Chester and it's 3.24 a pint for "Cheshire Cat," which is a locally brewed ale (Weetwood Brewery) and very good.
If I go into the city I'm paying nearer 5.00 a pint for a similar drink. No wonder a lot of pubs are closing because they are effectively pricing themselves out of existence.

Spoons in my village/town is a decent one and I pay £2.55 for guest ales…Monday it’s 2.25 and Tuesday 1.91…can’t complain! A lager for the missus, San Mig about 3.00 a pint

I too have the same dilemma with my work's xmas do. £30 for food i wouldn't order if going to a restaurant and entertainment i have to buy a ticket for that i wouldn't normally.

Call me a miserable get but I'd do what i am doing and just drive to and from the venue. As soon as the meal is over, i'll be going home to enjoy some supermarket beers!

Burnley so not to bad. Don't blame landlords, the government tax alcohol to a ridiculous level,high energy costs to brew, transport and for the pub it all adds up.

Cask ales £3.50 - £3.80 everywhere else.

I was in Aberdovey a few weeks ago and in a bog-standard pub I was charged £8.90 for a glass of pinot grigio for Mrs A and £6.10 for a pint of frankly awful bitter = £15. Needless to say, we (a) didn't have a second round and (b) didn't revisit the place.

I wont drink cheap lager like Fosters, Coors, Carling etc I just don't like them so a pint in my local of half decent lager is £4.80, same for Guinness.

My local Cricket club is great value though at under £4 for a decent pint.

My dad moans about beer prices and will drink in a **** hole to save a few quid out of principal, I'll probably end up like that one day but at the moment I'd sooner sit in a half decent pub and pay that little bit more.

Anything between £3:50 to £4:50 really if it goes beyond that point it can stay in it's barrel.

Nephew's 40th week before last at Crowood Peroni £7.20. Palace pre match in 110, Pendleside £2.80.

Inchy. Why not ask the venue to supply free jugs of iced water and just stick to that, especially as it’s a one off and you’ll feel better in yourself the next morning. Sounds like you’ve little choice regarding the overall cost, taxi etc apart from not going.

Never heard of the 'Frankly Awful' brewery, have to give it a go!

I know the price of everything goes up due to inflation etc. But I'd like to see the comparative prices from say, the 80's. I know football has risen well above its historic pricing, when a paper boy could get on the match with his wages. How much has alcohol risen in the same time?

My first pint was 25p. Round about 1975.

Wow, I'm going to have a word with the board here, and see if we can add a bit of our staff entertainment budget back into P&L. I might get some skiing in.

Crown in Colne is just under a fiver for a Guinness or a Morretti. Can get a Heineken for about 4.30 which I think is reasonable these days. I'd guess Fosters will be between 3.80 and 4 quid. Pubs in the centre of town will be cheaper.

Made even worse by never getting a full pint which drives me nuts! Should make it compulsory to serve beer in lined glasses IMO.

Depends where you work....I don't think the NHS should be paying for every Xmas party, in every department, in every hospital..likewise for many other occupations.

To be honest Bux i would never drink Guinness anywhere but in Ireland

Here in Benslmadena some bars are still serving pints of Mahou/San Miguel/Victoria etc at €1.50 a pint (£1) whilst the norm is around €2.0 a pint (£1.33). I quite often drink bottles of Mahou which is about €1.5 a bottle (£1.0). A pint of John Smiths or Guinnesd varies from €3-4..
The prices here vary massively from the area and location of the bar. English owned bsrs tend to be much cheaper than other natiinalities.

Here in Ramsbottom, at the cricket club Madri £4.90, Coors £3.90. I’ve not been in a pub yet since I’ve been home.
Back in Melbourne a lager type drink is about AU$16 (£8) and Guinness AU$19 (£9.50).

A pint of Guinness here will easily set you back a tenner ...

Paid £22 for two glasses of wine and a pint in the Fairhaven a couple of weeks ago, the pubs are doing ok. The established Wine bars and restaurants doing well , two or three new places have come and gone.

Decent Spoons in the town centre under £3 a pint for cask. Varies every time I go on there but make sure I avoid the omnipresent Doom Bar, Ruddles, and the worst ale I have had the misfortune to drink, Greene King IPA. Blackbirds has cask around £3 a pint and has had TT's Landlord, Adnams Ghost Ship and London Pride so not a bad selection.

Other pubs around the town, cask or half decent keg stuff varies but usually £5 is the minimum starting point.

You've brought back some fond memories of my sailing days. Tiger and Anchor were the go to beers when we were storing in Singapore either alongside or doing an OPL call. I had the luck to visit many times back in the 70s & 80s when it was really lively on Boogie Street. I've been back in the 2000s and it was no where near as much fun. Boat Quay was OK but the atmosphere had gone.
