...that was capable of doing this:

Of course Nathan Collins got burnt and Dara 'OShea was 10 yards off the action caught in two minds

There’s obviously more to it behind the scenes but I cannot fathom why Weghorst was sent on loan leaving us with just 2 strikers.

Either its fear of us booing him, squad unpleasure with his return, or a falling out with Vinny. With hindsight (glorious thing) its another barmy decision in the summer #weallgotcarriedaway

We'd already done the booing in pre-season. I believe the vast majority or maybe somewhere between 51% and 95% of supporters wanted him gone. Can't complain now.

Must have been part of the Jacob Brunn Larsen deal as well, with him coming from Hoffenheim.

You could argue he wanted himself away. He didn’t fit in from day 1 whoever sanctioned that signing the fault lies.

Because Rodriguez represents the long term picture better than Weghorst?
I fully agree with moving him on if he or the players were refusing to coexist but we saw no sign of that in the brief return to training and I do think the fan rejection to him was blinkered and stupid. I know we have Obafemi but he was injured in the summer and as soon as that happened, if we weren't keeping Wout we had to get someone in as the backup, nobody could predict Foster's trouble but that's why you have backup strikers.
No long term picture has the 2nd choice striker as a 34 year old who's scored 3 goals in his last 70 at this level, no matter how much Jay loves the club or works hard.

For me there’s never been a question of him having some sort of quality in his locker it’s when he chooses to show it & allegedly/supposedly the reason why CR was gobbing off at him.

Weghorst is cack. Dyche didn't want him, Jackson didn't want him, Kompany didn't want him. Scored goals for us in the Prem at about the same rate as Nathan Collins who gave him the 50 yards of space he needs to do something for his goal last night. And then did much worse in a much better team.

We should have signed a striker to back up Foster, but this waster isn't it. Jay criticised above for 3 in his last 70 but Weghorst will retire with 2 in 37 in the Premier League.

Thread was a little tongue in cheek but weg woud have been a much better foil for our style of play than what we’ve seen so far.

He looked like he was going to be a key player in preseason for us.

Much better player than some give credit for on here that’s for sure.

To be fair though Weghorsts game isn’t just goals, I think he had some good assists. 2 goals 3 assists in like 14 starts for us?

He had the great assist for Jay Rod v Manchester United, and then proceeded to do largely f all more. We've all seen him play football, all seen no Burnley manager actually want him, if you conclude from all that that he isn't properly **** then that's fine but I'm choosing to trust my eyes.

Can we be sure that it's Weggie not wanting to play for Burnley rather than our managers not wanting him?

He squared the ball for Vydra to score the winner, I think against Wolves?

I thought he was brilliant in those home games against United and Spurs, worked himself into the ground and showed some brilliant work on the half way line.

I do agree his time here was pretty underwhelming, I don’t think he was anywhere near as bad as he’s made out to be though.

Dyche and Jackson both dropped him, guess we can't be sure on Kompany. But Kompany has signed a striker who is already clearly a hell of a lot better and this thread probably wouldn't have been made if he was available.

Lyle has a long way to go to make that claim imo but is showing signs that he can be a top player.

It’s not like we signed Weghorst when he was in his prime like.

Foster has scored more goals in 7 games for the team you've been slagging off all season than Weghorst scored in 20 games for us and 17 games for actual Manchester United.

We also signed Weghorst aged 29 in the season after his best ever season in Germany, what is it that makes it not his prime?

Hey I like Lyle I’m just saying Wout has more than just his more than his Burnley career. Scored over 150 career goals like which is a good 120+ more than Lyle.

Probably say more 26/27 for a Striker - 29 is just at the end of their prime I’d say (on average)… he probably lost half a yard which makes all the difference in this league.

Christ almighty are any suggestions allowed here? So bored of the ‘gotcha’ attempts.

Do players lose speed as they age? Yep… Would that be out of the realm to suggest a player that isn’t blessed with pace to begin with might lose a bit of acceleration from being younger to getting to the end of his prime? No…

150 plus career goals. Lyle has under 30.

Lyle has shown that he can be a PL striker - still has a long way to go to have had the career that Weghorst has had ffs

So you made it up. That's fine.

Lyle showing that he can be a PL striker obviously makes him better than Weghorst who has in two short stints shown that he really can't be.
