Taffy
Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but Leighton James daughter has tweeted he's suffered a massive stroke and bleed on the brain. I'd literally just read this earlier tonight, he is my all time favourite Claret, before learning that my dad had died earlier today. Not the best evening up here in Northumberland needless to say.

Re: Taffy
My ex had bleed on the brain that caused her stroke similar to Gary Parkinson and it all depends on your body if you make some recovery and the rehabilitation you receive.
Re: Taffy
Can only remember watching Leighton James live when we were struggling Too young to remember watching him earlier although I did. Love the old footage of him in his prime , his general style of play and was just showing my son the other day. When he used to talk in the Foundation Lounge he across as a really good bloke. Hope he pulls through.
Re: Taffy
Awful news on two fronts Amble
Hope you and family are coping as best you can
Time heals but always leaves a scar.
I seem to recall Leighton had some kind of stroke a few years ago
Strokes are bad news in my book
Even the mildest of strokes can impact on your life
My wife passed three years ago from an intracerebral haemorrhage. Just 60 ml of blood in the wrong place.
Horrible
Hope things not too bad for Leighton but they may not be good for him.

Re: Taffy
Knocked me for six has this one.
Arrogant in the extreme but with a heart of gold and what a player he was. My message was from one of his 1980s team mates and I've just spoken to one of his team mates from the early seventies, both are as upset as me at this news.
Hoping you pull through this Taffy.

Re: Taffy
Thanks for all the messages regarding my dad.He wasn't much of a football fan himself, it was my grandad who was the Claret in the family. But my dad took me on the Longside when I was a kid,he'd buy his pint at the shed at the top in between the Longside and Bee Hole and tell me to be careful as I ventured into the midst of the terraces.
With regards to Taffy, I have his shirt from the Orient game,a much prized possession. Sincerely hope he pulls through.

Amble, I'm so sorry for your loss of your Dad. I lost mine just over 3 years ago and cherish my memories of him every day; I truly hope you have a million to re-live when you feel down. It helps so much to memorise those great times.AmbleClaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 4:25 pmThanks for all the messages regarding my dad.He wasn't much of a football fan himself, it was my grandad who was the Claret in the family. As for Taffy; he was my first "fave" when I began supporting The Clarets - I hope he has a full and speedy recovery.

Hope Leighton has a full and speedy recovery. From a fan of his 3rd spell
Re: Taffy
Just to add my condolences too on the passing of your Dad. My own Dad died many years ago but I still find myself talking to him and forgetting for a brief second that he is not around to talk to and thinking : "I'll just show this to Dad and find out his opinion."
As or Taffy I remember all his times at the club and for some reason remember most 2 goals he scored at Luton in his first spell with the club. He was a brilliant player and I like everyone else on here I hope that he can pull through.

Re: Taffy
I am a bit too young to remember too much about his first spells at the club, other than he was a brilliant player. I remember more of his last spell, scorer of important goals and despite his advancing years looking like one of the few players in claret that belonged on a football pitch and could drag us through our darkest period, culminating in the final day victory over Orient. Hoping that Taffy can pull through this and make some kind of recovery. UTC

Thinking about you and your family Amble, and also Leighton James’ family too. Wishing them all the best in his fight.
Re: Taffy
I don't know you at all Amble, but for you to lead with the news about Taffy and then drop in that your dad has died must show what kind of person you are, knowing that the majority on here 'know' Taffy more than your dad.AmbleClaret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 10:28 pmNot sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but Leighton James daughter has tweeted he's suffered a massive stroke and bleed on the brain. However, we've all lost loved ones so can relate to what you must be going through. I was beyond shocked when I read the bit about your dad and you have my sincere condolences.
The best wishes to Taffy, too.

Re: Taffy
I've been given some news on Taffy. It could be better news but it could also be a lot worse.
As things stand it's not life threatening but the stroke has taken his right side. He's struggling to talk (and that in itself will come as a shock to those of us who know him well) and they are now trying to get him on his feet.
I suspect it's going to be a long road but I've been fearing the worst in recent days.

Update on Taffy
Still on the stroke ward at the hospital in Swansea and still unable to talk. The bleed on the brain is slowly stopping.
