That was never a penalty but think they realised they made a mistake by not giving the Maguire one so gave it.

Everything that is wrong with VAR there. As soon as he’s directed to view the monitor he’s in a pickle as he is under pressure to go with the advice in his ear. The system is so flawed. He seemed reluctant to give the penalty, which you can understand, as it’s impossible to come to the conclusion that it was one.

Doesn’t help the fella in the VAR room is arguing why it should be a penalty. Slow motion looks worse every time.
You essentially have two people who have seen a situation differently, the one sat in the VAR room has more power to win the argument and simply more tools at his disposal (like manipulating replays by pausing the image with Lewis hand on his face so it’s the first thing the onfield referees sees) to win his argument.

Let's not forget Maguire gave away a blatant penalty earlier that wasn't given. So it fairly balanced itself out in the end.

If Lewis' header had cleared the ball I don't think that penalty would have been given.

I've (and others) have been saying for a good while that VAR should not be explaining anything to a ref. If the VAR thinks a decision is wrong then send a message to the watch that just informs them to check the screen. If the on field ref sees the clear and obvious error within 3 full speed replays then change the decision, if he doesn't then stick to their on field.
