Aaron Ramsay

I can appreciate that we all have different opinions on here but I am totally baffled as to why the knives are out for Aaron Ramsay.
Give the lad a break for heaven's sake. Lots got it wrong with Berge who will prove to be a great signing after an unimpressive start to his Clarets career. Ramsay has had a stop start time with injuries since he signed, and although it is not ideal these things happen in football.
There is a player in Ramsay for sure and I am confident that the lad will turn things around once he's fit.
A lot on here were calling for Zaroury to be starting but apart from his performance at Salford in the cup his form is sketchy at best.
Come on guys let's all get behind the players and if we can gain three points next Saturday against a side struggling like ourselves things will look a lot better. There has to be belief and backing from all of us if we are to have any chance of staying in this corrupt league and singling players out is not going help our cause. UTC !

Every time he plays, I see a super-talented player.

He’s like several others that just need game time and plenty of it. JBL is one I’d like to see given some proper game time.

Me as well. Our squad, if imbalanced, is brimming with talent.

Ignoring the ridiculous fee - he has phenomenal movement, fast thinking, shows great promise - but he’s so lightweight.

Would be ideal with experienced players around him

I thought he played really well yesterday, however I'd sacrifice him for a gritty physical central midfielder.

Thought he really added something to our game when he came on .

Looks a good player to me, just needs a bit of patience, which is in short supply at the moment.

Nothing wrong with him and could well prove to be a great signing IN THE FUTURE. Just not a priority signing last window. Same as Trafford and a few others. We needed a better balance between the above sort of signings and oven ready players to get us established back in the PL. If we'd have had Pope, Mee, Tarks and Joey B types, we'd have been fine.

Nowhere near ready and lightweight. Not what we need now but has potential and is one for the future imo.

His off the ball movement was fantastic. He found pockets of space well. The guys an intelligent footballer. Just needs to use the ball better and buy fouls.

If you don't have the strength and power you can make yourself a target for fouls, in turn you'll make the opposition scared of touching you.

It's Ramsey btw, not Ramsay.

Cracking player and will go on to play for England.

Some can see it, some clearly can not.

Mate just called me, a kiwi who prefers rugby and cricket to football, but is down with covid at the moment and watched our full match on Saturday.

First comment was what an exciting talent Ramsey is. Says something given his time on the pitch, I’d say.

Think I’ve been spelling that wrong too superdimitri so good call.

I think there looks to be a really good footballer there. He just happened to be part of the substitutions which upset our rhythm on Saturday, which is why people may have mentioned him, though I haven’t seen anything myself.

He looks a good player, especially considering how few games he's had with us. Imagine how good he'll be in season or two.

I thought Ramsey looked very bright when he came on.

I disagreed with the fundamental decision to actually bring him on (the subs lost us the game in my opinion), but he did well when he had the ball. A bit like a few of our signings though, he's just now what we needed at all for this seasons relegation battle. He will be absolutely superb in the Championship though.

Spot on summit . He's a good player but at present it's experience we need to get out of this pickle we're in .

I feel like VK was screwed either way with the subs, he tried shoring it up by taking off a tiring attacker in Amdouni and bringing on an energetic midfielder in Ramsey.

I’m not accusing you of this but VK was going to get criticised either way if we didn’t win. If VK subs on midfielders and brings off attackers to try and shore it up, specific fans will say “why change it? We were on top”. Meanwhile those same fans would’ve said “should have shored it up to see it out” if he kept Amdouni and Koleosho on and left Cullen on the bench.

I don’t think the reason we lost was because of the subs, I think we lost because nerves kicked in and we don’t know how to win home games atm. 2 of our more experienced heads made 2 costly mistakes.

I get what you're saying entirely here, but it was the choice of the subs I felt that was wrong which altered the shape - the Ramsey one less so than Cullen - rather than trying to shore it up, which I have no issue in doing (I had literally just said to my Dad prior to Cullen coming on "I'd get Ekdal on for one of the two centre backs" for example, just for height on set pieces). I think shifting Brownhill out of the centre was such a strange move at that crucial point of the game. The obvious sub in terms of experience and keeping the shape which had been so effective was to me Redmond for JBG (assuming he was tiring).

I will agree on the nerves though - they have no confidence on holding a lead whatsoever but we looked totally secure to me until the shape changed.

The substitutes definitely had a big impact on the outcome IMHO.
Though Ramsay actually did ok when he came on I am not sure taking off Amdouni who was just having one of the best spells of the season was the correct decision (though that said there is also the point about all players being monitored and Amdouni may have reached the point where he was in danger of being injured).

100% we were nervous - jeez in those past 15 mins they could not even boot the ball up the field without slicing or miss hitting it. That would suggest bringing on more experienced players who could help the younger players and manage the game better.
Vitinho was one of the main culprits in those last 20 minutes - bring Roberts on.
Try and combat the height difference (West Ham are one of the best performers in league at scoring from crosses this season)…..bring on Ekdal and either bring off O Shea or play 3 at the back. That might also have allowed us to take JayRod off who was out on his feet but probably kept on as he is one of our better players in the air.

Use Redmond for his experience.

And keep back a substitution in case they go into the lead so we are not left in the situation we were with 8 minutes of injury time of having attackers on the bench that we could not bring on to try and get an equaliser.

The way we used the substitutes has a big impact on the game

If we had won a previous home game this season I think we see that West Ham game out.

Not sure what people are seeing with Ramsey, aside from the odd nice touch. For me Brun Larsen has shown far more and can't seem to get a look in now.

I agree, but to be fair since he's first appearance Ramsey has had strapping on some part of he's leg/back of he's knee and still had it on Saturday, so for me he's clearly still not fit, apart from that he like 1 or 2 other's is not ready for this league, Trafford, Tresor, Odobert for instance. However Brunn larsen looks far more ready and suited and has looked very good in the time he has had in the team, but as you say, can't get near, he should have been the change for gudmundson on Saturday, but strangely we got Cullen, baffling.

Wasn't there on Saturday but I found the choice of Zaroury and Ramsey to come on odd. They are two of the most inexperienced players in the squad.

He had Redmond for example on the bench who is a very experienced player. We needed game management knowledge in those final minutes.

Ramsey is super talented and provided he stays fit will be a class act. He's just not ready quite yet.

Have to admit I saw more of a similar performance to he's utd one with Ramsey, but he's just clearly not been fit since day 1 and the strapping still apparent on he's hamstring area on Saturday still suggests that, but in terms of not quite ready yet I fully agree but could prove us wrong with a run of game's providing he is fit, and there's clearly something there, just a question of now or later. In terms of the sub on Saturday I feel a fit obafemi up top would have kept West ham pegged back.

I totally agree with you here. We have to learn how to win. The players almost expect to lose at the minute. VK will be doing a lot of talk/work on this with the players every week I'm sure.

I'm a bit weird that I find this season really interesting, (I am absolutely gutted after each match, obvs). Watching all these young, talented players slowly morph into a good team is really cool to watch up close. I would actually rather watch this than the Garlick years of battling to finish 17th for ever and a day.

I have absolute faith in the process that is happening, Kompany is no fool, neither is Pace. These guys know what they are doing. The players we have are potentially VERY good and they play for us!

Sit back, enjoy it.
