Both us and Rovers are playing teams from the same city on the same day today.

I wonder if this has happened before?

Happened a few weeks ago on October 7th when we played Chelsea and they played QPR.

Sheffield has 2 teams ...

London has quite a few more than 2 ... so those odds increased substantially

I would suggest this is more what the OP meant

Definitely happened on FA Cup 4th round day in 1966. We were at Spurs and they were at West Ham. We had a shared special train.
