David De Gea

How he’s still without a club baffles me, surely he’s the best ever free agent who’s had the longest time without a club ?

Just turned 33 so for a keeper he’s relatively young still got another 5 years easy on him.

He’s still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Is it wage demands or is there more to it ? He was on £375k a week at United.

Millions in the bank, what on earth does he want to work for?

If he's still demanding anywhere near 375k a week, then it's not that much of a surprise he's still a free agent!

Newcastle will pay it (and more, and a big signing on fee) for 6 months.

De Gea or Onana, I know which one I’d want in my team - it’d be the one currently sat in his arse with no club.

This fascination with goalkeepers who can pass it around as well as an outfield player is all well and good, if you can find one.

Aside from Ederson, Muric and at a push, Alisson (he’s prone to some howlers) there aren’t many that I’ve seen who inspire confidence when playing as a ball playing ‘keeper.

I’d much rather a Nick Pope than a lesser ‘keeper with better footwork.

375k a week? that is obscene.

Just quoting what someone else posted above

Agreed though, it is obscene.

Sadly, I dare say you're right (I'd forgotten about Pope's injury).

When you're owned by a country, I guess it doesn't matter about obscene wage demands.

Eddie Howe denied they’ve been in touch with De Gea/his agent and they’re not looking to sign him

Yes he’s 33 etc, but maybe he’s considering other offers

He could go to the mls next year, their season has just finished, or Saudi Arabia for example.

Alternatively he might just decide to retire

He had a turbulent last few years at Utd

Also, he’s not a sweeper keeper and that’s the current must have fad

The only club in the top 8 that has a track record over the last decade of paying silly money to older players in decline is the one that he has just left. It's one of their owners' major flaws. Spunk loads of money on a player that will sell a load of shirts rather than one that might prove to help you win a lot of games for a substantial number of years.

Yes, it worked with tom Brady and gronk, but that's a very different game.

There's a collision course with ten hag up ahead where they want to sign Muller or Messi or lewandowski etc and pay them more than those that are actually contributing to their getting points.

Agree with the general point, but Messi would still be incredible in the PL, and better than 75% of the Utd team.

Their PL squad is full apparently and, due to having two other goalkeepers, they wouldn't get the special dispensation to sign him.

I can see Newcastle trying to move a few on this January or certainly in the summer. Could there be a player or two that could help us out, not the big names of course but maybe on the fringe of the first team,

It’s his ludicrous wage demands allied to the fact there’s 100 keepers ,younger than him just as good and hugely cheaper .The difference in top level keepers these days is gossamer thin .
