Story in todays Sunday Mirror that Wolves will bid £7m for Burnley CONTRACT REBEL Josh Brownhill in January.
The contract rebel bit is news to me. Anybody know more?

His contact is up this summer. Whether we've already offered him something and he's turned it down who knows? For the sake of 7 million we'd be better off keeping him and letting him go for free this summer if he's going to go.

There's a one-year option to extend hopefully in the club's favour

On this site it says contract 24+, which suggests we have the option of an extra year.

There were reports recently that the club will be triggering the one year extension

Used to work with his brother and he was saying he had offers to leave last time we got relegated, but it was only to other clubs fighting relegation in the PL, so he wanted to give it a year with VK to see if we bounced back.

Looks likely we extend his contract if we have that option, but I would imagine he leaves in the summer if we get relegated again.

Club have an option and will take that option. Looks like a story for 6-12 months time.

That piece is littered with errors, how can he be out of contract when the club have a years option? Also calls him left sided.

If the option is in the club's favour then no doubt we will take it up
Question then is whether we will sell in the summer rather than let him go on a free 12 months later - do we need a player not 100% committed whichever league we are in (not saying he isn't committed now as he clearly is)
If a bid does come in during Jan and he makes it clear he prefers to go we have a difficult decision to make

All our players have a price on them as will Browny whether it’s January or the summer. But as said above he has 18 months left in effect and there’s no financial pressure to sell anyone for less than we value them.

Playing well at the mo.

I’d guess the same amount we see for everyone else - undisclosed.

Ah yes the old undisclosed line I do wish clubs would cut that out, can’t see the reason for secretes can you?

Berge and Brownhill are building a good partnership so it would be disappointing if Josh leaves. However, the club will need to recoup funds wasted in the summer so Pace and co. could be tempted if a fee around £10m is offered.

There might be a date at which the club need to exercise that option but the piece is, as you say, littered with errors.

I take great pride in being in the supportive 1% club of Josh and wanted him to stay just before the Championship season started last year when most in here wanted him gone!...

He is only 27 and most central midfielders' prime comes between 28 and 32 so his best years are ahead of him...

At the start of our Championship season, I said that we should be building a team around him as captain and nothing has changed on that... He has an amazing attitude and is on the right trajectory and he is one of the first on the team sheet for me...

I'm hoping we stay up and he signs a new contract but Alan Pace might want to cash in either way, which would be a mistake... We have to keep a core of experienced players!

Who would we make a loss on from last summer? Remember these were all young lads new to both English football and the Premier League where there are few, if any, 'gimme' games, unlike almost every other league in Europe. Tresor, JBL, Koleosho, Odobert and Amdouni are all young and are just adapting and settling in, some faster than others, I'll admit, but will fetch, at least, what we paid for them should we need to sell them. Amdouni, in particular, looked better with a different partner up front.
It just needs Vinnie to find the right combination(s) and for other options to become available, such as Benson, Foster and Obafemi, to make this a useful squad. I doubt that last summer's spending was done entirely on debt so there may be no need for a firesale should we be relegated

The problem for Brownhill is he can probably get a pay rise going elsewhere, but the issue is he just won’t play at another club in the prem.

If Cornets not getting any minutes then Brownhill certainly wont

I think we’d be daft to let him go in January after he’s struck up a decent partnership with Berge and also bagged a few.

But reassuring that he has interest if the worst happens because as we all know, we’ll need to sell a few.

Brownhill will struggle to get in any other Prem team, and he definitely won't take any corners for another team.
I don't believe for 1 minute that any premier League team came in for him when we went down, otherwise he'd have been off quicker than you can say "beat the first man"

Hes a solid player that sets the tone for us with his pressing and work rate. Every team needs a brownhill and when hes not available its usually pretty noticeable.

Im guessing we will lose Cork and Rodriguez at the end of the season, who will be leaders in the dressing room and a big part of maintaining our strong culture going back to the Dyche days, which VK has commented on often. This makes it vitally important that we keep Brownhill at all costs.

He gives the ball away far too often, you can't do that at this level.

Won't be a miss for me, sorry I know that might get me a few pelters- he huffs and he puffs - but I could do that!

Since you've joined the board Goliath i've agreed with all your posts that I've seen!

I agree - it's not something that you can put a metric on is it?

That's my biggest concern with VK's signings so far - O'Shea I think has started to emerge with some leadership and Traff to a lesser extent seemed more vocal against Brighton but I'm not seeing it with any of the other signings, which to me is a tad concerning.

He's a grafter and it's especially needed now as VK doesn't seem to sign that kind of player, but technically i'm not sure he's good enough for the Premier League.

Older than Brownhill, not as good, played about 2 minutes Premier league football his whole career, in what way is that an ideal replacement.

Very different types of players, isn’t even a regular starter there. Probably top scorer because he takes pens.

If we had 10 outfield "Brownhill type" characters we would be back to the old "hard to beat Burnley". He gives his all, and genuinely appreciates our fans. I also think he greatly enjoys playing for us. As I have said before he is the Mark Noble (WHU) of our team

The vast majority of people supported Josh last year most said he would be 1 of the divisions best players and so it proved. There is a minority who don’t rate him enough though 1 or 2 even suggested he was a league 1 player at best which was laughable, I think the number that don’t rate him has grown slightly this season but I guess still a majority that like him. Some even thought he had been replaced based on the fact he didn’t start the first few games. He is 1 of our most important players at the minute and long may that continue that said he will need to be upgraded on if and when we start to see some progress In this league but that is for the future.

I believe the list below is in order of transfer fee, starting with Amdouni, Tresor and Trafford who were all in the £15m region, down to Koleosho at £2.5m. I haven't included free or loan players. I don't think anyone other than Koleosho, and at a push Berge, has increased in value. At best we would break even on the signing as nobody has really stood out yet.

Amdouni - break even.
Tresor - loss.
Trafford - break even.
Ramsey - loss.
Beyer - break even.
Berge - borderline break even / profit.
Odobert - break even (he will clearly increase in value by the end of the season though if VK plays him).
O'Shea - borderline break even / loss.
Obafemi - break even.
Delcroix - loss.
Koleosho - profit.

I'm not being negative with the assumptions either. I actually think I'm being kind suggesting another club might pay us £15m for Trafford, £8m for O'Shea or even £12m for Beyer at the current time. We're languishing at the wrong end of the table giving away soft goals most weeks. Our back 5 is hardly going to top of anyone's list.

I don't think there will be a firesale at the end of the season but in the case of Brownhill we have a decision to make. Will he want to drop back down to the Championship again? Pace might think it's better having the cash in the bank to find a replacement. Also, it still leaves us with Berge and Cullen and they're both proven to be too good for the Championship.

Honestly think he is the most overrated midfielder player we have ever had. I have never seen a free kick taker hit it into row z as many times as watching Brownhill.

He is a championship standard player that hasn’t made the step up unfortunately.

Brilliant championship player, but not good enough for the prem. He will run himself into the ground for us which I appreciate, but technically he's lacking and he can't take a decent free kick or corner.

Not many can. That is obviously not one of his many strengths. The mind boggles as to why he is still being asked to take set pieces. It's on quite a long list of mysterious things that we keep doing that make no sense.
