Sad news from one of our local businesses. We've had a few family 'do's' over the years at Rosehill House, and I'm sure many on here have done the same. I hope someone takes it over and keeps the hotel up and running.

It's a real shame. I have only been once in recent years, the refurbishment was outstanding, and they were just kicking their wedding proposition back off after COVID.

I was involved in an extension design in the mid 1990s.
I locked the owner in the attic space for the afternoon, as he'd followed me up, unknown to me, whilst I was measuring up.

I heard they had a refurb, but the comments in the Burnley express article to this news suggests the rooms were damp and stunk? With people refusing to stay in the rooms they had booked.

Shame if true.

It's about eight years since I was in there and at that time it looked as if it needed a complete overall. I wasn't at all impressed. But looks as if it had a refurbishment and sad to see it closed.

It used to have a very famous next door neighbour too.

It used to be one of the places to get married and an upmarket hotel,but I can’t remember anyone in the last 25 yrs saying they got married there.

And Geoff N used to live just up the road from there.

Been there many a time with Mrs. HP for meals, parties and receptions etc. Fond memories.

unfortunately its one of those, if the people that loved it so much and sad for it closing used it more regularly it probably wouldn't need to close.

its worrying that on social media that they were still chasing people for payments of deposits for weddings on the day the announcements were made.

we recently tried to book an afternoon tea there a couple of weeks in advance and they wanted paying in full at the time of booking, not even a deposit.

i just hope people get back what they have paid.

Had a single room there before the city game this season. The room itself, breakfasts and service were all fine, but the bathroom was Blackpool B&B standard.

I do wonder if they might have tried to save on heating bills, being what they are. A big old house like that really did need a central constantly fed log fire imo but i guess when you're a hotel you have a lot more hot water needs which brings in boilers and gas which could understandably have been ruinous.

My great uncle Ben Hinchcliffe owned it in the 60s and 70s , stayed there many times .

The club could do worse than take it on as accommodation for young players. Plenty of car parking separate digs for academy coaches etc

Great shame. I stayed there about 3 years ago. Splendid building!

Jimmy was just off Scott Park Road when I last lived there (50 year ago )

We used to stay there every home game but once the wine bar mentality set in and the prices shot up we couldn't afford to
The owners were clearly not interested in the football supporter clientele which was a serious error and may have added to the demise of what was once our go to stay after the home games
We met Burnley fans from all over the country and lots of opposition fans too

It was Jimmy Mac next door. Jimmy Adamson lived on Springwood Road at the top of Brunshaw before moving to the bottom of Scott Park. Can't remember the name of the road but there houses looked straight onto the park.


Just looked it up - it's Western Avenue at the bottom of Scott Park. No road at the front, just a footpath and lovely big houses.

Used to go to Rosehill House with my grandparents for Sunday(?) lunch in the 60s and early 70s. Owned by Ben Hinchcliffe, chef was his son. RH allowed overnight guests to drink post 11pm, rumour was that a Clarets player would book a room so that drinking with team mates could continue once pubs shut.
Grew up on Scott Park Road almost opposite Jimmy Adamson on Western Avenue. As kids we used to keep an eye out for “posh” cars parked on Durban Grove, which meant a footballer was visiting, and would rush home to get autograph book. Most abiding memory is Bobby Charlton who drove a white Triumph Stag or similar. Autographs for all whether scrap of paper or an autograph book, patient and friendly surrounded by bunch of local kids. A true gentleman.

My nieces wedding was held at Rosehill House in October and it was a superb day.
Only on Monday evening I gave a talk and film show on Sam Hanna for around 20 members of Burnley Rotary Club there and again all seemed good. Place all trimmed up for Christmas looking really nice. What must have happened must have been pretty sudden.

Not quite correct, Jimmy Adamson actually lived on Deer Park Road which is just off Springwood Road

He did indeed, just round the corner. Adam Blacklaw lived on Springwood Road, the corner house at its junction with Brunshaw Road.

Admittedly, I'd only seen the bar/common areas of late. That was very nice - but I'd not seen the accommodation since the 90s when I was on the surveying team for the refurb.

I've been to two weddings there in the last 7years and both were great.

This should be a respectful story about an iconic part of Burnley. My wife worked there as a teenager in the 60s and I can remember delivering wedding cakes around the same time, made by my mum, by my dad around the same time. In October this year we enjoyed a happy birthday celebration which was well done.

Adamson finished his life in a house on Brunshaw Road near to the turning on to Springwood road and Townley or Applecross.

Boy have stayed there a few times for football games and both my parents when they died we had a afters there also.

How is somebody sharing a memory of Rosehill House in a thread about Rosehill House irrelevant?

Well, by his own admission, he’s mad…

Cobble suggests it needs to be respectful too…. Fail to see where it isn’t tbh…

Such a shame for years it had such a good reputation. I think energy and food costs going through the roof hasn't helped, hope it now doesn't become a government funded dumping ground.

If i were suitably minted, i'd enjoy making it my Burnley base. could be a grand private house with Staff digs

I'd have expected it to be popular with (admittedly slightly more discerning) away fans who are staying over. There's usually plenty around Burnley on Friday and Saturday nights and they can't all be at The Travelodge or The Ormerod.

I think Holiday Inn Express seems to get that business. Guess it makes sense for regular away travellers to use a chain and get loyalty rewards etc, especially if they can also use the same chain for work etc

What a shame. The Hotel Inspector programme was a good watch. Went to a cousin's wedding there last year and stayed over given we don't live locally. The annexe room was a bit of its time with a dated bathroom but otherwise clean, well maintained, warm and fresh. The bar, function room, food, gin bar all lovely. I felt quite pleased that they'd made good with it and a little Burnley gem to make use of again some day. Was thinking of using it for a family do next summer.

Let's hope it's back to business soon and not just left derelict or turned into a nursing home or doss house.

MikeS....your mention of Sam Hanna brings back memories of being taught woodwork at BGS. If I remember he was making a film of street games at the time. Very interesting character.

Rosehill House Hotel has been sold at auction for an 'undisclosed ' amount ..

Can’t believe it’s been almost a year since it closed! Time goes ridiculously quick at times!

Hope it doesn't become a dumping ground, hopefully turned into some quality flats or flattened.

Such a shame. It would still be thriving in a more salubrious part of the country.
