Good luck to her, surely everyone wants refs and Lino’s to be good at their job regardless of sex?
No reason why she can’t be as good as the men, and considerably better than some of the utter muppets we get all too frequently.

The meltdown should be on a par with a male ref having a poor game, no more and no less.

If she is anything like the lass who has run the line a few times then I'd say she's going to be a good 'un.

I reckon she'll do a great job and wish her every success in her future. Just goes to show how the game is truly transforming which can only be to the good.

Now sack VAR off and let the game return to what it once was with honest mistakes from players, managers and officials; they are honest mistakes. Oh, and stop pundits from their over analysis of every decision, without the officials there is no game.

I for one think its great that Rebecca has this and think she will be very good ...

One of the best referee performances I've ever seen so far was displayed by a women ref down here so I see no reason not to see women refs play in the premier league in the future.

Exactly, in fact there should be no meltdown at all.
I'd like to think that her presence may prompt better behaviour from the players; we can only hope.

Unless she's played in the Premier League I can't see how she is able to referee a match.

Quite frankly, the way VAR has changed refereeing a robot with some kind of prompt when to blow the whisle could do the job.

We have had dire refs who had 5 mins in lower leagues then promoted way above their ability level to the Premier league
Interestingly we get the gig with a female ref not Liverpool

Absolutely agree…. Surely we’ve all seen enough of VAR now to bin it off and welcome honest mistakes made by humans. Oh, to have the game refereed on the pitch once more.

Sadly, too much money floating around for this to happen. It’s here to stay I’m afraid. Disappointingly, I’m one of the fools who thought VAR would be the great leveller…. How naive…

The problem with VAR is the "boys' club" running it. We should ask Emma Hayes and Sarina Wiegman to take a look at how VAR is used. I'm sure they could sort out all the protocols and train a few women to run VAR every weekend. Just apply the rules of the game, perhaps adjust a few of the rules to accommodate what VAR can do and VAR cannot do - it's only a video replay system, so cannot determine intentions, for example - and ignore the badge on the shirt.

And maybe stop 'feeze framing' phases of play in order to 'show' an offence worthy of cancelling out a goal.

Yep, it's a sows ear alright.

Hopefully the start of some improvement in standards. And if the players have any sense of decency then maybe less bullying of the refs

Just a warning to the players that they may get booked and carded for bad fouls they committed years ago but have no recollection of them!

I sincerely wish her well and hope she has a very good game.

The day before Xmas eve. Awful fixture at this time of the month.
