Lowerhouse New Pro
Ruan de Swardt cannot make a return this year so the club have just announced the signing of Indian Satyajeet ‘Sach’ Bachhav. Lowerhouses' first Indian pro since 1991!

Who's considered the bigger cricket club in Burnley, is it actually Burnley or is it Lowerhouse? I get the impression that in football terms its like Birmingham (Burnley) and Villa (Lowerhouse) with Colne being like Walsall i.e. the sh*tty little club up the road.

I’d probably say Burnley. Didn’t Lowerhouse go about 100 years without winning anything at all?

Re: Lowerhouse New Pro
In answer to DAs question I would consider Lowerhouse similar to DL in football. Millions in their fan base and regularly take thousands away but do not win much. Burnley lower fan base but pick up trophies regularly taking no pleasure in the process
Re: Lowerhouse New Pro
Claiming Burnley are a bigger CC is akin to saying Man United are still the biggest club in the world

No comparison. Burnley are by far the bigger club. Class is permanent, form is temporary.

I think Hopey did a trophy comparison since 2005 (Lowerhouse first) between the 2 clubs and it was even. But with Burnley winning the league last year it will put them ahead in that period.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 5:31 pmThey've more than made up for that in recent years!!! No cricket club can compete with the football income stream Burnley get.
Lowerhouse give it a decent do though.

Re: Lowerhouse New Pro
As a Houser I think it will be difficult to improve on last season. The team is getting older and there appears little prospect of any of the 2nd team making the step up. Hopefully Henri Cottom can build on last season as he has the ability. The main source of runs could be Ben and Frankie with others chipping in when needed.
A big problem last season was our inability to get the ten wickets and the valuable bonus points which we will need to improve on.
Of course the new pro could be a belter but his stats from when he played for Birkenhead do not suggest it although he took 90+ wickets one season.
Big mistake when we let Ocki go and to Burnley of all clubs.

Re: Lowerhouse New Pro
There's no doubt in my mind that we need a bit of a refresh within the squad. It's starting to age and Henri Cottam apart nobody has come through the ranks and done enough.
Tom Walker coming back is a good boost. We need an alternative pace option to Jo Hawke.
A couple of other irons in the fire and discussions ongoing with a couple of players and suggestions they may be ex players returning.Jonny Whitehead perhaps?
We need a regular number 3 (a big problem all last season) and a good middle order batsman/pinch-hitter. If we get that and the pro performs then it could be an interesting summer.
What is for certain is we can't keep relying and hoping on Ben and Frankie to get the runs every week.

But he was trying to get on Padiham CCs committee 2 weeks ago at the AGM, so I would be a little shocked if he moved. Even in this cricket generation where players are on the move every season.

Alan Smith has never had anything to do with the cricket club officially. He was in charge of the football club for years and is still in charge of the sports club.
The sports club is made up of both football and cricket clubs together.

How many are on the sports club committee? I assume it’s predominantly cricket club members? I know the chairman of the football club and the secretary are on it but as far as I’m aware it’s just those two from the football club.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 11:01 amJonny is a bit of a joker, I don't think they took him serious. They try to keep the balance between football and cricket clubs on the sports clubs committee, but as you can imagine being on your clubs committee will be very time consuming, nevermind taking a 2nd role on.

Is he one of them who walks away when he doesn’t get his own way or falls out with the committee?
Is that why he’s leaving Padiham and going back there because they laughed about him wanting to join their committee?

I was just surprised of him asking to join a committee at a club and then leaving 2 weeks later.
I presume it was cricket reasons he went back.

Re: Lowerhouse New Pro
Well it seems the rumours I heard were correct. I'm pleasantly happy with this news. Jonny opening will allow Ben or Frankie to drop to 3. Gansler is a good prospect and getting Tom Walker back gives us better bowling options..and he is useful for picking up the pace later in an innings. If the Pro plays well then it could be a very intriguing season for House.

Re: Lowerhouse New Pro
One of the reasons is that players qualify for more clubs. The rules used to be (going back to post war) that you had to live OR work OR be born within 2 miles of the club you want to play for. It has constantly eased over time so the last I heard (even this may have changed) was that you had to live OR work OR be born within 10 miles of any Lancashire League club to play for any of the 24 clubs.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 8:14 pmI’m sure there is a reason a lot more players regularly move clubs more than previously.
Re: Lowerhouse New Pro
With the Indian guy now being unavailable The House have been searching for a new pro. The club have now announced the signing of Daniel Salpietro an Aussie allrounder. Looks to be an experienced league player and has a good track record with bat and ball. With Whitehead and Walker returning this signing should make the House very competitive in the forthcoming season.

Plenty of clubs announcing new pro's at short notice.
It's all the accommodation and things they have to organise are the problem.

Purely on face value stats wise i think he seems a better fit than the pro we had lined up initially....and he's been around the league before so he will be up to speed with what to expect. A biggy in my opinion. I'm infinitely more confident about this season than i was at the end of the last. Time will tell.
