Joey was pondering earlier why Kevin Sinfield didn’t win it.

Re: SPOTY
Well it was certainly a diverse line up with Balders,Scott,Logan and Gary Linekar covering the BBC's most cherished bases. Just had a skip through it and while it aint what it used to be with the beeb having so little Sport,it's a harmless enough back slapping smugfest. It attempts to cover both womens and mens sport which it should do,though in a year of p1ss poor sport and National team failure, that the Eng womens goalkeeper Mary Earp won says it all. However she was wonderfully dressed as a prostitute which surely mitigates any dissapointment. Balders (thankfully not dressed like a brass) breezed through the rugger, racing et al,a few clips here and there of Man City (who mopped up a few of the seemingly endless awards),snow boarding and disabled sports etc. The Kenny Dalglish award was a moving piece though, and the sheer work he put in post Hillsborough rises this man above most mere mortals.

Re: SPOTY
Even the Beeb has surpassed itself today with 4 programmes showing on BBC1 with the word “Celebrity” in the title and another over on BBC2 making it 5.

Re: SPOTY
Can someone explain how Erling Haaland didn’t win it as a British citizen / dual national?
The Beeb get their knickers in a twist if we don’t celebrate the multicultural mass of Britain today yet for some reason Haaland gets deemed to be an overseas person. Seems a bit hypocritical.

Re: SPOTY
Only 15 thousand people voted according to the figures. Time to scrap this award, it's been ridiculous and political for some time now. There's been countless sportsmen, and women who have been totally overlooked for years now.. two women's footballers win it back to back when you've got champion jockeys, cyclists, darts players, snooker players etc not even getting considered. The show needs to go...

Re: SPOTY
Same with Josh Kerr who won the 1500m world championship this year. How can someone who has become a world championship not be nominated. Even crazier the final was on the BBCAndreshotboots wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 6:08 pmOnly 15 thousand people voted according to the figures. Re: SPOTY
Have you made that up?
Re: SPOTY
It's wrong, but maybe unintentionally.
In the early years, Sports Personality of the Year was part of the same award ceremony as Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.
