Tonight’s reaction

I think apart from one poster everyone feels the same tonight, and it could be one of the few occasions this season that we’re all in agreement that today we competed against the side that’s 2nd in the league and deserved at least a draw, and were probably robbed, let’s beat all the teams in the bottom half of the table and we’re in with a chance.

Played really well today and have done for a number of weeks now (barring Everton). Improvement is clear, we’ve been unlucky too. I think we’ll sweep Luton aside. It looks a long shot to stay up unless a team above the relegation zone goes into a nosedive but if we bring some experience in with the window you never know.

I think we can all accept defeat, and relegation, as long as we do it "fighting". Sounds like we performed and battled well today

Played well today in the main. Daft individual mistakes cost us again, as they have done countless times this season.
I’m not as confident as Jedi about us brushing Luton aside, though. They seem to be giving everyone a good game.

It's very arrogant and disrespectful to say we'll just "brush Luton aside".

Tbf that performance was heading in the right direction.
I am still incredibly frustrated with our defence and January is absolutely critical if we are to pull of the great escape.
Thumbs up tonight

Luton are, like us, growing into this league
If we have to rely on a cm pairing from Brownhill, Cullen or Ramsey we are going to be in a serious fight in this game

Not many brush Luton aside. Dont see why we would. They've got more points than us for one.

Gutted tonight ... I watched on a stream that buffered a lot but didn't miss the main bits ...
To coin a phrase "We wuz robbed" ... watched a young side that gave it all and battled.
Proud of our lads tonight we definitely deserved something from that game

Playing a very decent side, did very well as far as an away performance is concerned . Unlucky that the officials were involved.

Not a chance we "brush Luton aside", we'll have to fight them all the way to get anything.

I'm gutted for them tonight, a real effort by all of em and but for small margins and refs we could have had some form of a result there.

Sweep Luton aside meaning ‘win the game’ - apologies if the insinuation was ‘batter’ to you all! I think it will be a close game but I feel confident we will win, that’s all

I'd expect townsend to have the wind in his sails he's done well for them so far when some were knocking him taking his time finding another club vindicating us not wanting him.

We have just gave the 2nd placed team at the moment a real go at their own ground with a battling performance, I'm not saying we will definately stay up but we are definately in with a chance of staying up.

With the way the season has gone so far, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Townsend has a blinder.
I hope I'm wrong though.

I do get the sentiment but at the same time Sheffield got a draw there last week.

I think we have improved recently but the required form we need is almost 1.3-1.4 points per game.
That’s similar form to Chelsea/Newcastle currently. It’s possible but would be remarkable

It would be remarkable but I am more positive after todays performance that we can do it.
Wouldn't be suprised if it goes to the very last game v Forest.

They really didn’t get a lucky goal and what did they do to us today then if they battered Sheffield into the ground?
Sheffield conceded 12 shots and we conceded 19 shots?
Both Sheffield and Burnley put in great performances. That’s the neutral POV

I think the intelligent money would be on relegation not because I'm negative but because we need too many points to reach the 35 that will likely be required to survive.
The only saving grace is if we can buy a couple of players in the window that can transform us into a top ten side to get the 1.3 /1.4 points we need.
We now seem to be in the midst of a competition to appear the most genuinely unhinged on here but I think the smart money would look at the facts and suggest that staying up looks pretty far fetched now.
We need some game changing signings now I don't think you can rely on other teams crashing and burning.

Hard to imagine Everton would freefall under the management of Sean Dyche. Dodgy result today, but they've turned in some brilliant performances this season.
In my opinion, I'm afraid we're done, win or no win against Luton. Such a shame we decided to write off a precious PL season in favour of blooding youngsters. I was so looking forward to seeing us compete at this level after the highs of last season.

The main reason to remain positive is Foster. Makes a massive difference. Pace, strength and getting a good conversion rate.
Of course we are more likely to go down, but in Trafford, Foster, Amdouni, LK and Odobert We have good assets. Next time we need to sort the back 4 and defensive midfield.

Oh of course I mean Everton have the same number of wins as Brighton and Chelsea this season, so the likelihood is next to zero.
I personally think we are down and it would take something truly remarkable to stay up.
I know it’s controversial but I think our only chance is a new managers bounce to close the gap.

I think we have some absolute stars of the future who are just not quite ready for the PL right now.
They are improving collectively. Al Dakhil, Ramsey, Massengo will become very good players for Burnley.

Be amazed if Foster, Trafford, Amdouni and Odobert are at the club in the championship.
I think that’s more unlikely than actually staying in the prem this season.

Very proud of the lads tonight - they battled and really showed some resilience.
Play like that most weeks and we will start climbing up the table.
All we can do is take it one game at a time.

It was so much more than just resilience.
Villa fans I spoke to after the game said we gave them more problems than City did.

We competed, true.
But, we were only able to do so and were flattered by Villa and other teams wasting opportunities and chances that they create and we gift.
One highlight is Trafford is coming good, and proving alot of people wrong.

It’s pointless banging on about how well we play and how we deserve this and that when in reality we are having to score at least two a game to get at least a point. The defensive line that finished today would struggle in League 1.
