With our first league game not until 15th January, it got me thinking if this will be our longest wait for a first league game in a calendar year, or have we had longer previously?

Have to go a long way back, 1890/91 season our first league game in 1891 was 25th January away at Derby.

Only three games in Jan, and one being the FA cup.

Thete are definitely some things better in the Championship.

1963, first game was 2nd March, the 61st day of the year. I think that will take some beating.

Yet another stitching up of the smaller clubs - we were just getting into our stride whereas the clubs in Europe need a rest, as evidenced by all the upsets over Christmas. Factor in the cup replay issue and smaller clubs are getting less and less chances to cause upsets.

Not to worry, soon after football returns we have a fresh and rejuvenated City, Arsenal and Liverpool
