Another interesting footnote from that round is that Carlisle knocked out Sunderland after a replay at Roker Park when ( I think? ) Sunderland were the holders. I bet they were two tasty matches.
I also went to the Grimsby match and my memory of the game is that not only were the crowd vociferous they were extremely aggressive and threatening with quite a bit of skirmishing during and after.

I was there, too. The Grimsby fans took advantage of the fact Burnley was working on the Saturday of that particular three-day working week, so only the kids went.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 12:13 pmAnother interesting footnote from that round is that Carlisle knocked out Sunderland after a replay at Roker Park when ( I think? ) Sunderland were the holders. Certainly was lively post match. I recall the special train getting bricked outside Cleethorpes station.

Seems that luck stayed with Newcastle into the later rounds. especially the 6th round.
