After a number of these outbreaks I anm getting increasingly concerned for Barton’s mental health. It strikes me that this self destructive mission is driven by inner demons, and the need to be in the limelight (for whatever reason) even while damaging his own reputation may suggest ADHD is playing a part in all this.

Re: Joey’s in bother again
Conversely, having watched the film clip of the goal that she conceded, JB's tweet does look to be 'fair comment'; that was a pee-poor bit of goalkeeping. I've seen posts on here which say far worse about James Trafford in relation to goals that weren't even his fault.
So what are we suggesting, that JB, or indeed anyone, aren't allowed to criticise young, female players, but it's OK to do similar when the player is older and/or male? I thought we were supposed to be kicking discrimination out of football; the young lady and her father can't have it both ways... Or perhaps they can.

Re: Joey’s in bother again
Weird that he hates women's football but still watches it. The only other highlight I saw from that game was Rangers 4th goal and the GK made a great save with her feet to keep the first shot out and then couldn't do much with the second shot.wilks_bfc wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 1:36 pmApologies missed the link off

wouldnt it be easier to just unfollow him on twitter rather than get your knickers in a twist everytime he posts something? or do you enjoy the upset/outrage?

Poor old Joey. He doesn't want women commenting on the men's game, but it's ok for him to do so on the women's game.

Not sure if you realise how Twitter works but you don’t need to be following somebody to see what they post
I picked it up from the metro link I posted, not from any of his posts

He's getting rather tiresome, seems to revel in finding things to criticise, can't be healthy long term.

Aye, he doesn't care much for women's football, and that's his choice, but why watch something that is clearly an anathema to him? He must wake up in the morning actively looking for stuff to get angry and upset about - then hit Twitter. I bet he's a right bundle of fun to be around.AmbleClaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 2:45 pmHe's getting rather tiresome, seems to revel in finding things to criticise, can't be healthy long term.

Picking on 17 year old girls now. You'd think this was the low point, but I fear he'll go further yet.
Bit gutted really, my lad loved him at Burnley, sad to see what he's turned into.

It's time people stopper defending him. The "he was great for us" argument didn't hold much water in the first place.

Re: Joey’s in bother again
No one can argue with JB that women’s football is very poor compared to the men’s game and especially the keepers . Though I think he’s flogging it a bit now and it’s become a grift . It’s a shame, he could have been a good manager or at least a mildly controversial successful pundit in the game .
The one thing JB does highlight is the insane amount of diversity hires within sports media . Why not let the women work their way up organically so the quality ones can rise to the top and be totally respected . There’s useless blokes too , but I defy anyone to watch the last MOTD panel and not die a little .

It’s 2 different games.
It’s like comparing an under 14s game on Towneley and criticising a young kid

That’s very very true . Many sports like athletics , tennis , swimming , cycling ,the disadvantage is simply muscle mass /power ratio etc . But with football there’s a plethora of balance / strength disadvantages for the women . The issue being , that instead of accepting and owning it, the media etc seem to want us to treat them the same when they’re clearly not . Awful errors are usually just completely ignored as an example .
I think it’s great we’ve got girls taking up the game in school and grassroots level.

Re: Joey’s in bother again
I do agree on the media element. Not so much the commentary or analysis (tbh I don’t take much notice be it from male or female) but more the Sky Sports News / BBC having headlines like “BARCA STRIKER TO ARSENAL” as breaking news.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 5:43 pmThat’s very very true . As a grassroots coach, it’s great seeing more girls playing the game and we constantly get enquiries to join teams, it’s just unfortunate that we can’t get the coaches for those teams

Re: Joey’s in bother again
I watched him on the Triggernomitry Podcast, and he was talking ****. Words were seeping from his mouth to the point I was wondering if he had lost the thread of what he was saying and was talking while backtracking in mind. He reminds me of that guy in the pub who manages to retain information and historical fact but is thick as pig **** when it comes to reason and common sense and thinks he is better than everyone else.
One day, he'll exercise his freedom of speech against the wrong person, and someone will do him - like a seven-time world kickboxing champion Dad of a 17-year-old lass.

To be honest I don’t think he’s just turned into this. His past suggests he has always been an absolute weapon. Nedum Onuoha has cast an interesting light on what it was like to be team mates with him.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 3:33 pmPicking on 17 year old girls now. Hes an attention seeking prat, a bang average footballer and a poor manager

Being an absolute wally doesn’t alter that.

Re: Joey’s in bother again
Top drawer is pushing it even for a fan of his.
I thought he was a good leader for us and a decent player but dreadful on his return in the Prem.
Nowhere near the quality of Cork or defour.

He was very good at football and could've been one of England's best if he hadn't been such a tosser.
I always knew he couldn't be a decent manager. He seems the type who should lead a group of lads with a go-out-and-get attitude, but when the going gets tough, he quickly loses the dressing room.

Re: Joey’s in bother again
What bizarre comments? Barton was a quality much sought after prem footballer , hardly “ bang average “ If he hadn’t been such an utter c0ck he’d have probs bagged a couple of dozen Eng caps and had a far longer prem career . He was excellent for us and I thought very decent in the prem too . Don’t let your personal views of Barton cloud your judgement of his playing ability .

Re: Joey’s in bother again
But it should not Jacob that is the point. ADHD is polar opposite to Autism… why people like me who have both pass under the radar, but suffer from both ends of the spectrum at once. Autistic people used to be described as slow, and obsessive… far from it Autism is about order, an autistic person is constantly bombarded by information. On average they have ten thoughts to every one a none autistic person… the apparent slowness is due to the filtering that has to go on with those different thoughts and their contexts… hence ordering things like smarties to colours is a giveaway in children; it is how they deal with life day in day out… putting things into recognisable and easily identified piles because so much is being filtered.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 6:01 pmI mentioned that before regarding something isn't right upstairs when certain deemed inappropriate comments were in the offing. ADHD includes symptoms of lack of concentration and is very much chaotic in nature.
… and they are just the two I know first hand. Mental health is by no means a catch all, it is an unhelpful but medically necessary label.

He was an average Premier league footballer and was exactly what we needed to get us promotion. That doesn't mean he was a top drawer footballer.

I know all that & the differences between certain mental health conditions the point I'm trying to make it feels like labor is after what happened with LF & all the understanding that was shown in a helpful way maybe some sort of similar understanding could be helpful here especially in terms of the comments. Part of me wonders if he was still a player here would that be any different maybe more leniency. like I said the responses are very selective when at the end in all probability/likelihood you are still dealing with a mental health condition although different in nature to LFs. You shouldn't just cherry pick how you react.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 8:35 pmBut it should not Jacob that is the point. Re: Joey’s in bother again
He was probably not as good as them, fair point, but if he didn't come with the baggage of his disciplinary records and his behaviour off the field, he could've played for some top clubs. I bet top managers and scouts at the Big Six (and Everton at the time) looked at Barton and then asked, 'Will he be a good fit?'—and that's what I mean.
After a move to West Ham, which collapsed because of his reputation, Sean Dyche signed him up by massaging his ego and telling him to be a leader. He stepped up to the challenge, but it's a shame that he needed somebody to babysit him like that because he's a tosser.

I have not cherry picked anything. I have not followed JB nor the story. The odd rant comes up in passing news on Twitter, without wider context: So I had nothing to base wild assumptions on, I have since seen more on a variety of subjects which led to a more considered opinion. That is not cherry picking.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 8:48 pmI know all that & the differences between certain mental health conditions the point I'm trying to make it feels like labor is after what happened with LF & all the understanding that was shown in a helpful way maybe some sort of similar understanding could be helpful here especially in terms of the comments. Re: Joey’s in bother again
Genuinely interested.
What's the issue with Vine?
I don't know much about him, but on the occasions that I listen to his radio programme I don't find him to be particularly offensive or controversial. He always comes across to me as a well-spoken, fairly bland, non-controversial sort of guy. Am I missing something significant?
And what makes him "the worst"? (As bad as say Wayne Couzens, Fred West??)

Re: Joey’s in bother again
Just had a look at a few of Barton’s recent tweets , he does indeed seem to be going totally mental . He’s reduced to calling the women’s game “ lesbo ball “ etc . He’s gone from “ man down the pub “ banter to almost Tourette’s like scattergun abuse at anything female . This isn’t a grift it’s a full on mental breakdown .

Re: Joey’s in bother again
I'm sensitive to elwa's view on this, from previous posts I know he's a considered and experienced voice on mental health.
The counterpoint is this is how grifting works. Barton got loads of attention for his "controversial" remarks and the only way to sustain that attention is to keep going further and further each time. People don't usually go this far this fast but I think it's quite easy to attribute it to Barton not being very clever or interesting.
