Although O Shea and Delcroix have been quite deservedly been receiving praise, but I thought young Ramsey who has received a lot of stick this season, did not let himself down and put in a great shift

Seen a few positive comments but thought overall he was poor, did some good pressing and intercepted a few breaks but once in possession I've no faith at all that he'll keep possession his touch is awful

Positionally off the ball he was much better than I expected. On the ball he was exactly what I expected

Was fine in CM tonight and continued the trend of looking good when played in the middle.

He’s not a cm in a 2, he could play the Amdouni position but doesn’t have the flair of Amdouni

Unfamiliar role in a midfield 2 but I thought he performed well, wasn’t afraid to get stuck in and always made himself available.

Best possession stats for someone playing more than 20 mins.

Most tackles in midfield. Most forward passes. 2 interceptions.

He wasn’t perfect but I thought he was a real shining star for us. Retained the ball well. Passes through the lines with good pace. I think he’s a little lightweight but he should bulk up over the next couple of years. Some real potential there for me.

IMO CM is defo his best position.

Our centre midfield of Cullen and Ramsey were excellent tonight.

I thought he was good too, until shifted out wide. The subs and positional changes I thought certainly weakened us as the game went on.

Cullen was good too.

Far too weak for me. Makes too many mistakes and in crucial areas of the pitch. Loses possession easily. Marginally better tonight but nothing special. Needs a loan out.

I liked that he got his foot in - it’s not something I expected of him but he was quite industrious and played an unfamiliar role fairly well against a good side. There is a player to work with here.

If I saw a midfield 2 of Ramsey and Berge against Luton I’d be worried but if I saw Cullen and Berge with Ramsey in front I think those as a 3 would really compliment each other

Moaners and whingers always have an innate need to pick a boo-boy.

The fact that some have attempted to pick Ramsey shows up that a lot of them don't have a basic grasp of football or, if we're being generous, are very new to all of this.

Ramsey is insanely talented. He's had some poor moments this season but no more than every other member of our squad. Ramsey's got enough ability to play for England.*

* At a pinch, he's not a Scholes or a Bellingham but he's at least up there with Jack Cork et al.

Ramsey's best position is definitely in the centre of midfield. He actually competes very well when the ball is bouncing around in midfield.

He's not ready to play consistently at this level yet, that's clear, but I've no problem with him being given games and cameos in that position.

When played out wide, he seems to lose his physicality, and I'm not entirely sure why.

It most certainly not irony-I genuinely felt there were a lot of good things to his game tonight, and am reassured in my assessment by a number of other positive posters on this topic. There is a very good future player in there and I think VK knows that

He did ok but will always struggle in a midfield two playing this shape against PL opposition. He typically lost the ball on the edge of his own box in the first half - something he seems to have a tendency to do each time he plays. He doesn’t have the strength to play that role.

I still think a midfield three of Cullen, Brownhill and Berge would solidify things and allow us to play less defensively minded players (or luxury players) out wide.

The stats genuinely amaze me on this one I thought he was so easily bypassed or taken off the ball. Passing was decent but thought he got knocked off or or gave it away in his own half quite a bit and looked lightweight. Must have been watching the wrong guy.

But I bet you thought that before the game about him.

This is the problem on here, fans have quickly made their bed so now have to double down and lay in it. He could have been amazing and still some would’ve found a negative remark because their mind is already made up about a young kid new to PL football.

He’s best as an attacking midfielder running on to the ball and linking up with a striker.

Played very well against United and is on the back of a good season last year. People on here love to write a player off before they get going. He’s had a stop start season so far. Playing in a midfield 2 (in a 442) is asking a lot from any player in the premier league, never mind one who’s trying to establish themself.

My thoughts too. VK is very quick to bring on young players, and it feels he was quickly thrown in the deep end soon after he recovered from injury. Other managers may have brought him in gradually. But reading some posters here ,you read the words useless, dreadful etc to describe him, when the guy is still so young and inexperienced, and now playing against the best clubs in Europe but clearly is a great prospect

Few nuances to this…

- VAR has screwed us at least 3 points
- our key striker has missed half the games (major miss)
- new players have taken time to adapt to the league
- young players are developing all the time
- changed tactics halfway to favour better off-the-ball structure

Should have had a penalty against United, Villa no penalty plus they should have had a red card earlier, Forest away should have stood.
That's that's minimum 5 points lost through VAR maybe more

Every team will have the same stories, I mean look at Everton this week to name one. Even Liverpool have been done over by VAR this season. I don't really think you can use VAR as an excuse.

Should of had a pen in last minute away to Bournemouth to, should of had a pen first half against West Ham, if we get 2 penalties and go 2-0 up I don’t think we lose that game

I think that you have to accept that the first two points happen to all teams so they aren't really factors. Spurs were missing two top players last evening who destroyed us at Turf Moor.

The improvement in performance did not come about because the players have got used the the league it was immediate as soon as we changed to a more orthodox formation.

I look at the game last night and I can't say that individually the players don't look good enough.....!

Not really fortunate as I suspect the deal we have with Villa will
Mean he goes back on relegation for an agreed fee same as Archer at Sheffield Utd probably why it took so long to sort out.

Thought he did okay today CM or attacking mid certainly his best position although I suspect he will be better in a 3 rather than a 2.

Ramsey wants too much time on receipt of the ball, and then doesn’t react to protect the ball when put under pressure, so basically is not up to the speed or physicality of a premier league game.
Foster was identical to this last year and in the Championship but now, mental health allowing, looks more than capable at this level.

Stats can been misleading Newcastle you can have a guy who has 20 touches and keeps it 15 times ,or you can have a guy that’s never in the game but has 6 touches and keeps it 5 times ,as a previous poster says the biggest problem is our lack of physical strength ,we’ve 3 options get some bigger built guys in this month, have them in the Gym 7 days a week ,or just wait for them to finish growing.
