Callum O'Hare

I know this ship has probably sailed but he's 25 years old and since his return from injury Coventry are flying. He is out of contract in the summer and is currently still no nearer signing a new one. The Coventry supporters are having a meltdown as you'd probably expect. They are pleading with the club to: "pay him what he wants", "make him the biggest earner at the club", " do whatever it takes to make him sign".
We all know too well what normally happens as we were coming out with similar requests when Danny Ings and James Tarkowski were in their final 6 months of their contracts. I would be very surprised if O'Hare did sign a new contract but maybe we should make a cheeky bid and p**s them right off!

Great talent, but another midget. Also, not a priority position atm. Comes below:-

A commanding cb
2 full backs
A defensive centre midfielder
A central striker

All/most tall, quick and strong.

For me it goes:-

LB
ST
CM
RB

The first two (LB and ST) are absolutely essential this window whilst the others would be a bonus.

I agree, however depending on the injury to Charlie Taylor I'd still say that when he's fit the RB position is more of a concern.

If nothing else, would be funny to see that Cov Journo's reaction.

Given the first choices at the moment, I'd suggest right back was more important than left back

Amen to that!

Re O’Hare: good player and I don’t think VK would go after someone so much if he wasn’t a fan… maybe we also have to be smart and think of potential succession planning for this summer.

Both are just as important. Propper VK style full backs transforms this side

I think both full back positions are where we're weakest and that's saying something considering how soft we are in central midfield and how shallow we are up front.

Neither right back is good enough. Vitinho isn't Championship standard, I'm amazed he's played so much this season but then Roberts hasn't made that position his own. We've just the one left back in Taylor who's been decent but in truth he's the antithesis of what Kompany would want in an ideal world.

As gandhisflipflop says - two better fullbacks transforms this current side on the ball and off it. Not signing Maatsen or someone of his ilk had a big impact.

I don’t think anyone would disagree with what you say about both full backs but I think the point being made was that Taylor is far better at left back at this level than both Vitinho and Roberts are at right back.

Both sides need upgrades but if everyone is fit I’m much more confident with Taylor at left back than either of the other two at right back.

O'Hare on a free would be a shrewd signing, especially if we can also bring some money in for the likes of Twine and Churlinov. O'Hare would be an upgrade, with plenty of Championship experience (if that's where we are next season).

Exactly what I meant. While not fitting the Kompany bill, Taylor is playing well. I’m not sure what Vitinho is but he’s not a Premier League right back.

Interesting how two people can watch the same thing week after week but see things differently, I think Taylor has been poor and getting roasted all season. Leaking goals down his side whilst offering nothing in the final third. I think he’s been finished at this level for a while, I preferred Pieters long before Dyche left.

I think Vitinho has been improving, his final ball is shocking though! At least he’s getting into those positions unlike Taylor

Yes it is funny.
Taylor has had a good season in my view and has got us out of a hole with us failing to get a left back.

Vitinho for the most has been awful. His end product has been worse than shocking….between Al Dakhill, Roberts and Vitinho this season it’s been awful at right back.

Right now, I'd prefer a right back that can defend. Vitinho often can't do that effectively. Taylor has been better for sure.

I do think had Pieters not got injured two years ago it might have just kept us up. We picked up ten points from the eight games he started and the only defeats were against Man City and Liverpool.

But moving on to now, Taylor is our best option on the left and I think Roberts is our best on the right.

I think we probably should be interested in someone who can score goals.

To be fair, we are scoring goals at the rate we’ve always done in the Premier League, approximately one per game. It’s at the other end where the problems are.

Personally don’t think Roberts has ever been good enough especially at prem level
Vitinho makes mistakes but you can see the improvement in him end he’s confident enough to try and take the ball forward.

He leaves massive holes at the back and his positionally and defensively naive.

Really? I think hes getting significantly worse the more he plays. Every team knows hes the weak link now so there's no hiding. At some point hes going to cost us an important result, you cant carry players like that in this league and hope to stay up.

Every team last season targeted Maatsens side and it didn’t make him the weak link, roberts literally got sent off in a game where his side was targeted all game.

To me I can see exactly why Vitinho is starting over Roberts and we have certainly been better in the last 10 league games he’s started than the first 10

Totally different circumstances, we were having minimum 60 percent possession every game last season so teams werent able to attack us, so we could accomodate less capable defenders. Although i would argue Maatsen was the weak link defensively, thats exactly why teams targetted him.

I havent said anything about Roberts, hes also rubbish but id play him above for Vitinho thats for sure. It'd be Beyer or Roberts at RB for me until we can get a new one in. Althougg id be interested to see how JBG could do there

Is this a bit like the ‘he tries really hard’ thing? Personally, I need a bit more than that.

If he’s shown improvement it’s from an incredibly low base. He’s nowhere near the required level - defensively or on the ball. He’s a huge part of the reason we let so many goals in and don’t create enough at the other end.

He certainly creates more attacks and chances than Roberts but it is like picking best of a bad bunch, really instead of spending the 15m each on Trafford, Ramsey and Tresor. 2 lots of those 15m should of gone on 2 full backs

Im not even sure this is true. Roberts had a nice habit of making good runs from deep and knicking a few goals a season along with getting a few assists from getting to thr byline and cutting back. Hes definitely more productive in the final 3rd.
