My Dad is constantly moaning about Burnley now. I might whinge and post reactive crap on messageboards, but I don’t take it home with me or be angry IRL (as the kids would say)

I went to my second ever live game 54 years ago today, Bury 8-0 Tranmere. If I was that 8 year old now, I don’t think I’d be interested in football at all. In fact, this 62 year old, isn’t far off not liking football anymore. I’ve certainly no interest in watching 90 minutes on tv.

I might watch the odd Championship game live on TV ,but Premier League? Pretty much No, it's just so biased towards big city clubs it's ridiculous.

I'm a 33 year old man, married, with 18 month old twins and that result on Friday has absolutely tarnished my weekend. I've been grumpy all day and can't stop thinking about that ridiculous refereeing decision. I wish I could grow up and care less about Burnley...

In 3 months it'll be 50 yrs since the semi-final defeat at Hillsborough. I was there.
Honestly don't think I've ever got over it in that it still hurts. Pathetic, I know.
What I will never be able to tolerate is players not giving every last bit of sweat for the famous claret and blue.
This season, and certainly last night, there are players on our team who are not prepared to do that.

Well said Alf,I haven’t got over being beaten at home by non league Wimbledon,and losing 7-0 at Hillsborough ,and being 3 up against Blackburn in the cup and drawing and …………………………..last nights non effort is also hard to bare but don’t moan because some people will say you have an agenda ,or you aren’t a true fan ,or you should watch Blackburn.

I literally never watch any football on tv ever, unless it’s Burnley, I might have 1 eye on the tv periodically if I’m in the pub, or England in a tournament but that’s it.

I used to but I don't anymore. I get ****** off for 20 mins when we lose then I try and forget it, can't control it. Long gone are the years where it would bug me for a week

Agree. They don’t play for us anymore, they don’t manage us anymore. Managers, players, loaneees, will all come back at some stage with other clubs to try to beat us. Just ignore them and support our own team.

My son is 5years old, like lots of his school mates he loves playing football, consuming it through different channels and importantly can't wait to be on the Turf.

I'm sure the younger versions of you would still fall in love with the game, it's just a different game.

There's some players who don't give a toss about their performance on the pitch. Turn up, train, play if picked, trouser a large paycheck and enjoy life. Supporters? Who cares. We do of course but too many of the modern day players don't and need to be reminded by the manager. If Tresor had played, as he did, with SD as Manager he'd have been out on his ear pronto.

I pay my money and spend the time travelling to watch the games, so I expect 100% effort as a minimum and far too often this season I think it has been lacking.

Soft in tackles, not tracking back, losing the ball and making no effort to recover it - it's all basic stuff. We are being short changed by millionaire footballers who can't be bothered to put a shift in once a week.

Looking back over the years I wish my wife was a football fan then at least I could have a rant with her instead of coming on here and joining in arguments (discussions) for 48 hrs after every shambolic performance,and being retired having no work mates to either agree with you or take the **** ,and I fully agree that it gets much harder the older you get.

Good post. I am a year or two older than you and have also lost my enthusiasm for football. I still renew my season ticket each season though and get up to most games. The main reason for doing this is that I get to see one of my brothers, the only one that still lives in East Lancashire.
It’s nothing to do with being at the bottom of the league either. As you say, VAR has killed it.
Not only that though. Top level football is hyped to such an extent that you would think it was the only thing that mattered.
The money in the game is obscene and we had petulant little kids like Sancho at Man United sitting on his own or at home on his X box whilst drawing circa £300k a week in wages. Then the show pony Jack Grealish gets burgled and announces that a million pounds worth of jewellery had been stolen. It’s truly mad.
When Covid first hit and there was no football I quickly adjusted and honestly didn’t miss it. I actually hoped that because of Covid the @rse might have dropped out of football in terms of sponsors TV revenue etc. and it would drop to a lower base point where players and agents weren’t sucking obscene amounts of money out of the game and wouldn’t have as much power. However, the wages and transfer fees have just continued to go up and up.
Even us at little old Burnley FC are paying ten million here and eight million there and 15 million there for bang average players just to try and compete at this level. It’s all gone mad.
One consolation is that we won’t have to suffer the VAR nonsense next season. UTC.

70 in a couple of weeks. I think I’ve got worse if I’m honest. I periodically get reminders from my wife to think about what’s actually important, she’ll then say think about our grandchildren, at that point it puts things into perspective.
