Nope what? He was our best attacking player on the pitch today by an absolute mile. The only pass he overhit all night was the one to Vitinho.

He's both brilliant and awful all in the same game. The amount of times he gave the ball away cheaply tonight was ridiculous, but then he also looks the most likely to pop up with a goal.

Absolutely woeful second half performance. Gave the ball away time and again, picked wrong passes, ruined moves where we had overloads by taking too long/making the wrong decision

Hmm....not so sure. My brother and I call him "the nearly man" because so many times he nearly beats his man or nearly finds the right touch. He does provide threat however and, of course, he scored tonight.

Sometimes I think he's Amdou-nearly, a lot of the time I think he's Amdou-no. I swear Kompany spends most of the game barking at him to press and close down. Some lovely touches and pops up with a goal like tonight but he's one of a few we've got who amble around like they're Messi when they don't have the ball. There's a player in there and he could go on to have a great career at a level higher than Burnley but for the present there's a lot about him which is the antithesis of what you want in a relegation battle.

I find it weird people don't see the ability amdouni clearly has. It's not quite coming off for him at times, but he has the potential to be a top player, both in terms of linking play and as a goalscorer. He could be a 15-20 goal striker in the premier league imo.

Foster had run himself into the ground after 60 minutes so when the Amdouni flicks weren’t dropping to him it looked like both had a shocking half

Foster should have laid a simple pass to him, found space so well.
Vitinho chose to shoot on his left instead of laying it off to him for an easier chance when he was screaming for it.
Gudmundsson should have done far better when Amdouni played him in.
Literally everything came through Zeki tonight

Partly that and partly that his passing tonight was woeful. Poor choices or poor execution, and at times both at once.

He was good tonight. Linked play really well at times, not everything comes off but he tries stuff, not everything will, but when it does it creates chances. Also should have had an assist when he laid one on a plate for JBG.

A truly frustrating player - bags of talent but all too often he over plays, picks the wrong option, over hits a pass, under hits a pass or whatever he tries doesn’t come off.
There are only so many “oh nearly” moments that a player can have before you start to wonder if there’s something more than being a bit unlucky.

He also slid in JBG second half with a great chance, of course the terrible Gudmundsson just wellies it out of play.
Funny how we see Amdouni topics created but no Brownhill/Gudmundsson topics who were rotten tonight

It’s not his fault Gudmundsson couldn’t hit a barn door for Zeki to get an assist.
Not his fault Foster couldn’t find a simple pass for Zeki to score.

I think that's because there's probably less of a debate. Neither should be starting in the Premier League. Gudmundsson in particular wasn't good enough two to three seasons ago at this level.

I concentrated on his performance tonight and have concluded there is something there obviously but he is one lazy sod. He puts no effort into making runs, trying to win the ball back, losing the ball whilst in possession because he holds on to the ball too long and his decision making is currently very poor. I’m hoping someone can unlock that potential in training but he ain’t doing it at the moment

Kept on trying fancy flicks and clever dummies that failed every time. Needs to be braver, keeping the ball under pressure and using it better.

Not blaming him for JBG’s poor miss or Foster not finding him, nor forgetting that he scored.
As I say, he’s a really talented lad, he just seems to lack some end product in terms of the final ball or picking the right option.

It's funny how you're so defensive over Amdouni but someone like Gudmundsson who has been a decent servant you are very disparaging about. Not saying he played well but do you really have to talk about our players like that?
It's pretty obvious that there is going to be a slightly different level of expectation between two players that most had decided weren't good enough two years ago vs someone who came in as our record signing.

I think there in lies the problem. We have some young lads with bags of talent and potential, but I dont think they are evenly matched.
He's always been a luxury player since I saw him at the City game.

Seriously, that pass was absolutely straight forward. I was just relieved he did the obvious thing for once rather than trying to beat 3 men with a shite flick. Gudmundsson didnt 'welly'it out of play, he put it slightly over Fosters head because he wasnt comfortable crossing it with his weaker foor.
Your use of language is interesting when describing different situations. I wonder if Amdouni had overhit a cross would you have described it as 'wellying out of play', I think not.
As is the norm Gudmundsson was solid, reliable and keeps the ball well. Hes a no thrills reliable wideman and is also one of if not the highest assister in the team this season.

Gudmundsson has had better nights on the ball, but he protected Vitinho really well.
Amdouni used the ball quite well s couple of times but he also butchered 3 counter attacks that I saw by trying to be too ambitious. His movement was also lamentable - against a team playing 3 centre backs and 2 holding midfielders, the space is always going to be down the sides and he did nowhere near enough to consistently offer options. At one point on about 30 minutes Vitinho rightly had a full blown rant at him for not doing so.
More fundamentally though his pressing was awful. He didn't stop Barkley, at all, and nor did he stop the wider of Luton's centre backs advancing, particularly down their right, where Al Dakhil routinely had 2 men because Amdouni wasn't making up the numbers and Odobert wasn't switched on.
On these last two points the comparison is with Foster. He made tireless channel runs, and he closed down for 98 minutes. He set a standard Amdouni got nowhere near matching. He, like Tresor, is hugely gifted but ultimately, unfortunately, a luxury.

I believe the criticism aimed at Amdouni is misdirected though, why are players like Brownhill and Gudmundsson given a free ride yet our young new signings aren’t cut any slack.
I’m sorry but Gudmundsson was poor tonight, he’s been here for years he has no excuse. Zeki our brightest attacking threat is tore into.

Its a thread about Amdouni though no? Hes in the team to score goals an create and doesnt do it enough. Jbg has a different job, he is extremely hard working and disiciplined, which is the only reason we are getting away with playing an absolute liability at right back.
It amazes me that people havent realised yet from this season how important players lile Gudmundsson are at this level for us.

He should have done considerably better with the first chance at Spurs.
He almost scorpion kicked the second into the net, if you think that was a glaring opportunity I think you need to rewatch it. The ball was yards behind him, that’s why he had to heel flick it.

They have completely different roles in the team. JBG is close to being a wing back in this team. I still reckon hes on a similar amount of assists to Amdouni, although its a bizarre comparison of players. Basically JBG is doing the job hes in team for, Amdouni isnt.

Amdouni did his job tonight, he scored, could have had a couple more if his team mates passed him the ball when he’s screaming for it in the area. He also should have had an assist but his team mate missed a sitter.

Amdouni has a real knack of finding space. Someone mentioned the space he created for himself when Foster should have played him in and he was clever with his movement for the goal.
He’s mega frustrating though. Too often gives the ball away and spends too much of games on the periphery.

First 10-15 minutes I thought Vitinho is having one of them games but after that I thought he was good. He stopped Dougherty getting in the game for them for the best parts of the game but I agree he Vitinho is frustrating. He does all the difficult bits then when it gets to crossing, shooting or finding a man in a better position and it’s like his feet don’t work

Vitinho was going mad at one point as he wanted to play the ball forwards and nobody was moving. He was waving his arms to try to get someone to move for the pass and when nobody did he had to go back. He wasn't a happy chappy.

Amdouni is an absolute merchant.
The odd silky turn blinds you to the utter uselessness of 99% of the other stuff he does, and without the ball he may as well be in the stand.

This also happened when al dakhil had the ball at some point in the first half. Had no escape bar a ball down the line, instead of making the obvious channel run to give him an option, Amdouni instead decide to amble around next to their centre back and give him absolutely no option. He really does avoid the dirty work at times
