Been thinking about this for years, but was scared of going (unsure why because the sooner they find it, the more treatable it is than leaving it. I had a fit and active friend (younger than me )diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and is now recovered . Also a few gym friends also had raised PSA levels which required further tests one turned out to be cancerous (recovered after treatment). A raised PSA level doesn't mean you have cancer in fact only about a quarter leads to a cancer diagnosis when the PSA score is under 10.
I had a private blood test the other day (Medicheck) for other reasons and had my PSA tested due to being over 50 , luckily it only came in at 0.72ng/ML . 3ng/ml is considered high.
It was a relief I had convinced myself to prepare for the worse, don't know why, so glad I had it done and will do it yearly now .

Ever so grateful for this. Only tested because I thought it was an easy donation to the charity.
Lo and behold come back with a red warning.
No symptoms, nothing.
Second test led to a biopsy in April, led to surgery in September.
Well on the road to recovery.

It bears repeating every year that you should get a check even if you had no symptoms just like me. The test came back as a red warning and after a biopsy and scan I had surgery. Just had my yearly blood test check this last week and my PSA level is undetectable.

176 people could put their minds at rest - get on and get booked , whatever the outcome you'll be glad that you did.

On reading this post booked my home test and just had the results back

PSA Total: 0.38 ng/ml

Which is good, get your test booked even for peace of mind

Can I just add that if you’ve a tendency to pee often, have an urge, dribble, sometimes pee very little, never feel as though you’ve emptied your bladder, get up a few times in the night. If the above is you don’t just rely on the blood test -PSA. Go to the doctors and ask to be referred to a Urologist. I’ve had the above for a few years and did the yearly PSA which was fine. My wife’s be telling me for months to go to the Doctor but I kept telling myself the PSA test is okay I’m fine. It’s not until my knee replacement surgery a couple of weeks ago that they picked up on me not peeing properly and spoke with a Urologist. I go to see him in a weeks time where I’m likely to be told I need a prostrate procedure. Please think about what I’ve said,

Delivered by Royal Mail Wednesday lunchtime.
Test undertaken Thursday lunchtime and posted to the laboratory 1300 hours.
Received by laboratory Friday 8.00am and sample tested Friday morning.
Result via email lunchtime Friday.
All for £28 or the equivalent of 45 minutes of first team football at Turf Moor as a walk up.

Having seen the latest recipients of Knighthoods and Damehoods on recent honours lists, BK would be a far more worthy recipient given his extensive service to local business, football, community and charity. Maybe our "celebrity" supporters ( two national radio presenters and a political raconteur) could start the process rolling. Sir Barry and Lady Kilby has a nice ring about it but Lord and Lady Kilby of Turf Moor has a much better tone. BK would bring a vast expertise to the upper house.

Try logging into the website again and look in the top right corner. You should have a message icon there. Click on that, and you should be able to download and print your appointment confirmation.

Mine appeared about 1 hour after the initial booking, as the website was playing up.

Just bumping this back up if there's still availability for the event.

I never used to bother to be honest but I was bullied into it by Barry around six years ago. I usually have it done at the docs but I'm not due for a while and my brother prompted me on this testing day.

I’m not sure about the mention of 2 years, my view would be to go EVERY YEAR. I go into Hospital next Tuesday for a prostate operation the details of which I’ve posted previously in this thread. For those putting it off getting tested, don't think about it Just DO IT. Think about the other people in your life.

should always get checked each year after 50 or if you have had prostate issues or surgery..
