Yeah, good luck to him.
Had a really rough time with his covid illness, so
deserves it.

Best of luck to Steve Cotterill.
I met him while he was here and he could be a 'bristly' character and not a bloke to be crossed in a hurry but I think that was just his slightly guarded way and he always struck me as someone with a real love of the game so I'm glad to see him back, especially after his health issues.
I was initially shocked to see the news as I hadn't seen the news that Troy Deeney had been sacked.

It all depends how he gets on with the chairman I expect.

That will be the fella who runs Ecotricity won’t it Dale Vince.

There’s more threads on here about Steve Bloody Cotterill than wins when he managed us .

Plenty of Steve Cotterill at Burnley talk in the interview with Michael Duff on From the Bee Hole End tomorrow.

It baffles me that hes down in the lower leagues. Championship clubs could do worse.

Didn't he work in the England set-up with Harold Wilkinson?
That wouldn't help.

miracle if he keeps them up but he has plenty of experience, bit mental giving a manager 5 days of the transfer window though

Not really on trend with his style of play.

I can see SC becoming a firefighter choice for clubs needing to turn results though, especially if he can turn FGR around.

From what i remember his Bristol City were basically a wide open gung ho type side. He was massively adaptable with us, he had success with Robbie Blake as a lone striker, Akinbiyi and Andy Gray, all completely different styles. His name has a negative reputation alongside it, im not really sure why.

To be fair the final months of his stay here were pretty painful viewing.

Hardly - if you’d said the previous season I might have agreed but some good performances in the early part of the season before he left.

Yep, think expectations had started to rise with Flood coming in and spending quite a lot of money. It was a new era for the club really.
That early Wayne Thomas red against Southampton killed him looking at the results, we were excellent that day from memory and probably would have won with 11.

We lost against Southampton in his second last home game but Thomas played for Southampton that day. It was the year before when he was sent off in the game.

From what I’ve heard from a player who played under him. I think if he liked you, he liked you. If he didn’t like you, that’s it. There's no relationship there.

It makes it awkward when you eventually cross paths again later on down the line because he’d hold the same opinion from decades before.

Ah memory playing tricks. Can't remember the one before he was sacked really then but now you mention it im guessing Thomas was playing for the other team by then after Cotterill had worked wonders to get over a million for him.

Don’t remember an upturn in form, but I’m certainly not going to argue. I remember being a little surprised by the timing but unsurprised (apart from him being at his own sacking press conference) when he left.

Whenever his name is mentioned it takes me back to the borefest away to Aston Villa in the league cup.

Sitting there watching Burnley that night made me so frustrated that we just defended when it was crying out for us to attack them and give it a go.

Such a frustrating performance from Burnley on the night.
