Loan players - Stay or Go
I've just counted that we now have no fewer than 12 players with first team experience out on loan.
Do we expect them ALL to return for next season, assuming we're back in the Championship?
Could one or two of them actually WANT to leave?

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
My guess would be
BPF, Roberts, Weghorst, Twine, Egan-Riley, Churlinov, Bastien - aren't likely be back at Burnley
Mcnally, Costellor and Obafemi - won't be back if can be sold for a profit
Zaroury, Mellon and Dodgson - likely to return

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
I would not really disagree with any of that. Possibly Twine may be given another shot? Although if a decent bid comes in then I expect we accept it. Hopefully Zaroury wants to come back, but it he tips Hull into the play offs and then promotion, I reckon he would want to stay (long shot of course).dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 4:27 pmMy guess would be

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
Move Twine and BPF into the second category and rename that category "whether they come back depends on whether we get a suitable offer which gives us a profit" and I think that is about right. Twine and BPF I think might be options next season, e.g. if Trafford is sold BPF presumably comes into our thinking again.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 4:27 pmMy guess would be

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
is BPF not out of contract at the end of the season? Agree on rename of 2nd group, but then would add Zaroury into that as well.claretspice wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 4:52 pmMove Twine and BPF into the second category and rename that category "whether they come back depends on whether we get a suitable offer which gives us a profit" and I think that is about right. Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
Just checked Costelloe out of contract at the end of the season. BPF out of contract but there's an option of a further year - not sure either party would execute that.
Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
I’d sell them all aside from Zaroury and Mellon.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 4:27 pmMy guess would be

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
Depending on whether Twine shows anything at Bristol that might translate to being an asset to us in the Championship - I think I agree.

I imagine Dodgson will be gone if we get a decent bid. He hasn't shown enough in his loans so far

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
I completely disagree with the loan system.
Why should any club be able to loan a player in or out ?
The big clubs are stockpiling players which in turn is starving the smaller clubs of good players and also depriving them of nurturing young players which, if they progress, can make a profit for the lower clubs when making their way up the leagues.
I also think more young players who sigh for the likes of Chelsea & Man Utd etc, then get discarded at an early age
and as a result get disenchanted with the game, would make the grade if they had started off at a Port Vale or Exeter etc.

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
They are out on loan for a reason - VK does not fancy any of them even as "squad" players
Don't see much of a future for many even in the Championship next season so might as well let them go especially if we can get in some money

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
I’d keep Zaroury, Mellon and Twine.
Regarding Twine specifically , if we make a poor start next season and VK gets the push, some of our squad players who aren’t currently in favour, could work well in a different managers system.

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
I wouldn't sleep on CJ Egan-Riley;
Just 21 and playing on loan at a big club competing for a title and sat at the top of the Eredivisie - could easily kick on.

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
Agree with you, I haven’t seen him play much but everything suggests he’s got a pretty high ceiling. PSV (the best side in Holland atm) pushed to loan him in back to back summer windows , did really well at Hibs, capped at England u15s all the way through to the u19s.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 11:42 amI wouldn't sleep on CJ Egan-Riley;

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
Egan-Riley playing for PSV’s 21s team in the league below. Also reports suggested a buy option in the deal I think?

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
I don't think I can remember a time when we have had so many players that are saleable / an asset. We've had the odd one each season and a few the season we went down.
I agree all of them need to go apart from Zaroury. I think there is a top level player in there. We got to remember his ages.

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
I think it depends on how well they do at the clubs they have gone to and the league we are in next season (almost probably Championship). But I would be surprised if more than a couple come back.
Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
There’s quite a few £ in those loan players for us, should fetch north of £20m if you take out Anass and Mellon.
Obafemi £5m
Twine £4m
Roberts £3m
Weghorst £2m (anything to recoup something)
Churlinov £4m
McNally £6m
I put Obafemi £5m because that’s what we got for Wells, could be slightly more or less.

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
Bit optimistic there. Clubs at Champ level just don’t have the cash. Churlinov rumoured buy option was £3m I think. McNally be around £2m max. Still around £15m potential though.KRBFC wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 1:38 pmThere’s quite a few £ in those loan players for us, should fetch north of £20m if you take out Anass and Mellon.

Re: Loan players - Stay or Go
They might all have a value attached but Kompanys thinking is that we sign them young, ,develop them then sell on at profit. I can't think they'll all go for a profit, and if we are relegated their value will drop as clubs use it as a bargaining took against us.bf2k wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 1:18 pmI don't think I can remember a time when we have had so many players that are saleable / an asset. As is pointed out elsewhere, Chamiionship clubs don't have the resources to splash the cash.

Didn't we pay £5m for Wells then we traded him and £8m for Brownhill?
