Seen a few of these off leads since the ban and even where juniors have been playing football. Saw one not long ago on a high st with some rough chav owners terrorising people and a little dog. They swore at everyone and blamed it on the little dog. People shouldn’t have to go out in fear. Let’s hope the ban is enforced properly and owners like that chav in Essex whose dogs killed his child’s gran are locked up.

Or maybe sit and try to explain to the dog that the person beside me has a lot more meat on that i have on me .

Of course it doesn't have to be steak. Could just as easily be pork or chicken or veal.

Or even a tin of corned beef.

Just be careful not to cut yourself when you open it for the dog though.

Hit it with a rolled up copy of the Daily Mail or, if browsing online, an iPad will perform the same function

There is no good reason I can think of own one these breeds in the modern world.

Other breeds act perfectly as guard dogs without being so dangerous. These dogs make good pets and guard property and people.

That's an important distinction: A guard dog defends property. Bully XLs are prone to attacking people which is entirely different.

They quickly became a status symbol in what might impolitely (but accurately) be called "chav culture".

This one was bred for the sole reason of dog fighting, in the USA

Most of the XL’s in this country can be traced back to a single XL in the USA

They’ll die out eventually, but all that will happen is the people using them as a status symbol will move onto a diff breed as they’ve always done

I am not a fan of the Guardian journalists but I draw the line at them getting savagely mauled!

I've been told that sticking a finger or two into its eyes can be very useful too. Apparently if you can hurt a dog sufficiently, it doesn't think "I'll hurt him more", it thinks "Ow, that hurts, I'm off".

I think these Bully XL dogs feel no pain whatsoever.

You can hit them over the head with a spade and still it makes no difference.

When I used to go running,I carried a large metal nut on a piece of thick string to ward any vicious dogs away.. They didn't like it smacked on their heads. Came in handy.

Saw someone walking 2 of these the other day up Lane head, both muzzled and on leads.

The guy whose dogs killed his sons grandmother at the weekend was one of those who blamed bad breeding and owners, the lady knew the fogs, they still killed her, the guy now agrees the breed should be wiped out. Can't come soon enough

Every XL Bully I have come accross has been good as gold. The most chilled out dog there is.

But dogs are tamed wild animals, any single one of them can turn angry.

Remember all the other dog breeds, the government has run bad publicity campaigns against.

Alsations, Pit Bulls, Doberman, Rottweiler, Staffies.

They all had bad press.

If Spades don’t work try Clubs and if that fails hit it with the full deck.

I just looked up what methods the police use to deal with these dogs.

That method is only an option for Stateside Clarets however.

This is why you should always have a rotund friend, acquaintance or family member to follow you round that you can outrun in the event of meeting an unfriendly bear, bully or badger.

It’s not the dogs it’s the humans who breed/own the dogs which is the problem.

The xl bully is bred to be a trophy dog. Not my cup of tea but every one Iv met has been fantastic and well behaved.

Go after the rogue breeders and make people with large dog have a license to keep them in which they have to pass certain criteria much like a owning a shotgun.

That’s the legal requirement now

Registered and on the exemption list
Liability insurance for everyone who walks them
Microchipped
If fully grown, neutered/spayed, if puppy to be done after they’ve finished growing
Must be on their lead and muzzled when out in public

I’ve seen 6ft+ men in good health ripped to shreds, literally. The last bloke I saw in hospital had every limb heavily bandaged, and part of his jaw and neck missing because the dog went for his throat, but he managed to dip his chin in time.

Makes me wonder if i'd be best getting a Skorpion again if they become a thing round here.

Zsar, I wonder if that's the poor bloke from Manchester for was on the local TV news a while back. He was sitting on his sofa, with his dog next to him, when it suddenly attacked and ripped him to bits. He'd had the Bully since it was a pup and never before had it shown any signs of aggression.

No it was a different chap from SE London, but there’ll be hundreds of similar stories no doubt.

The chap I saw was at a park full of kids when he saw an XL Bully going beserk with no obvious owner.

He wasn’t going to let it go for the kids so he put himself in harms way, and tried to take it down himself.

He is, or was, self employed as a painter and decorator but probably won’t be able to work again.

Absolute hero.

Yes, I encountered one in Bank Hall park, I was on a bench and it was straining at the lead of a young lady, it came up to me I looked into its dead looking blue eyes and patted it and off it went and though I'm 6ft and 16 st I felt relieved, it was very intimidating the size of it's head and it's muscular body. The dog was named 'Ice' if anyone knows it. there would've been no chance of her or anyone else restraining it if it was that way out.

Big damn ugly brute, though tbf the dog probly thought the same.

the difficulty that some folk find between a good dog and a good dog owner is not too different between their opinions of a good parent and a bad child.

I bet a pound to a penny that there are more of these dogs in turdtowns than well-to-do places.

One tried to eat my camera !!!! I just looked at it and thought, you carry on; it was massive and could do owt it wanted in my book. Luckily the owner put it in it's place and I moved on quickly
