Very ...probably due the amount of "Iron" in the Earths crust, and as every one knows you "Iron" stuff to make it flat

For some strange reason, I’d love for the earth to actually be flat, and to find out that Antarctic is actually a giant ice wall.

I think the Earth is flat at every point, all the way round its circumference. All those flat bits combined make it spherical.

It's really bumpy too.

We can all agree it's certainly not a smooth sphere.

The various imperfections, wobble from our axis and gravitational pull of other planets causing inconsistencies in how we orbit the sun causes a whole manner of cool stuff - it even influences how we've evolved.

I'm fascinated in the fact some poeple are buying into a flat earth theory. Surely most of them are just having a bit of a laigh with it, right?

I love conspiracy theorists, they absolutely fascinate me. We live in a world where governments can't even keep a Christmas party under wraps, yet they believe governments/NASA etc. have successfully faked moon landings and round planets without one single person, out of the thousands that would have to be involved, coming forward with evidence to the contrary in all these years.

Seeing pictures and other media from organisations such as NASA, ESA, UKSA, ROSCOSMOS (SSC), ISA, CSA, CNSA, JAXA. The writings and/or mathematical theorem of Pythagoras, Newton, Eratosphenes, etc. the fact that Satellites exist, orbit and don't just sit still, the fact that we have very defined seasons and meteorological phenomenons, that GPS exists, that you can see the curvature of the earth when on a long haul flight, that you can see it on live streams from ISS and satellites, high atmospheric balloon jumps and the lack of evidence that backs any opposing view.

There's a relatively new breed of these mind you... they've evolved from times around many of those you've referred to, to pretty much anything to have an alternative opinion (and it is an opinion) about. All generally led by a social media chief (usually a Z list celeb, or PT with a Merc A180)

Being someone who has navigated around the world on several occasions I can confirm that the quickest way from A to B is via a great circle track. If the earth was flat it would be a straight line. Sorry, it's roundish.

The thing with stuff like this - you can't work out whether you're dealing with a troll or a stupid.

I suspect concepts such as flat and round are actually more complex than we think.

It's really quite easy to disprove the 'flat earth' theory:
If the earth was 'flat' it would have to have an 'end' and if that were the case, the (arse) end of the world would unquestionably be Tow Law in Co. Durham. But you can drive into Tow Law and out the other sides of it, ergo, the earth is not flat.

It's over 40 years since we allegedly put astronauts on the moon and yet we haven't been able to successfully do it since, that's got to tell you something.

I have literally no idea whether the earth is flat or round. My belief that it is round. I suspect this post is more of a phishing post derived from the JB thread. I do find it all interesting however whether it’s round flat or triangular it doesn’t effect me in any way so it’s just an interesting subject like a lot of so called conspiracy theories.

You might as well argue with a lamp-post.

74 different space programs exist throughout the countries of Earth.

Even those who oppose each other politically, or culturally or have reason to go to war with each other, they all agree the Earth is round.

74 space agencies, employing thousands of people. If it was true that the Earth was flat, someone who worked there would provide actual evidence. They wouldn't be able to all keep it a secret.

Also, there's literally no benefit to lying about how the Earth is, it defies logic.

We've been to the moon numerous times, we've not been back because there's no reason to. India have been though. Recently.

Also, there's a photograph of Earth from about 1954 which shows it as round. The negatives and prints of these pics were sold at auction a couple of years ago. 70 year old negatives.

The Earth was shown from Space on TV in 1960, showing it as a round Earth.

It's round. There's no evidence to the contrary.

Every person I've met who is into Flat Earth, and loads of other bonkers stuff, has been rather needy, and this includes a relative of ours who is one of the most 'high maintenance' people I've ever met. She's basically into all this shite because she is a rather dull person who requires a lot of attention.

Anthonini is somewhat correct. The pictures of the ‘blue marble’ are not basic photographs… but they are not CGI either. But it's a composite of photos stitched together to form a complete picture.

However, even with that, I don't understand the conspiracy theories. Even if scientists proved it was flat, Flat Earthers would counter that it's round because we are still being lied to.

I think the flat Earth thing is mischievious, false and made to discredit all conspiracy theories.
