I know American football doesn't have relegation but i wonder if he ever endured any bad runs of defeats across a season like we have done? Hopefully he can pass on some salient advice if soVegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 7:03 pmat training

It’s hard not to like the guy , he’s thrown himself full on into his investment and embraced the club . Perhaps gone a bit over enthusiastic on the Burnley cliches , but it’s ni bad thing

Taking the touchline? let's be putting him on the pitch at full back or centre half. I reckon JJ could break up most attacks, though he may rack up the yellow and red cards

My son works and lives in Florida. He says a lot of sports bars he goes to have the Clarets games on TV with US footy fans adopting Burnley as their UK team. The bar owners say it's all because of JJ Watt and his wife who constantly promote the club on Sports channels nationwide.Bowclaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 8:52 pmI’m currently in Orlando on holiday with my family and obviously wearing our Burnley shirts and the amount of times I’ve been asked by Americans saying “Is that a Burnley FC shirt ?” And then they ask about JJ - Unbelievable what the guy is doing to promote our club.
Apparently the bar went crazy when O'Shea headed in

Imagine that is in part top 6 fans celebrating a Chelsea draw as much as a Burnley win, but great to hear the JJ effect is taking hold in the US.It Is What It Is wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 8:45 amMy son works and lives in Florida. Did read we were thinking of pre-season touring in the US and that could help, as would a season-turnaround story. If we could show some real Burnley character and grit in these last games I imagine it’d make JJ’s job a whole load easier promoting the club.

Quite a good episode. JJ came accross very well.
They asked him some good questions, he never had to go into so much detail as such, as like most weeks with 5 or 6 on the podcast. They get interrupted a lot.

Re: JJ Watt...
if that's the first one you've watched then you've missed out, these aren't your stereotypical interviews, they are always talking over each other and taking the **** - stick to football is a casual conversation setting, these aren't the main 'overlap' interviews that Neville does on his own
On a side note, make sure you watch beyond the credits for Roy Keane taking the ****, it's pretty funny.

Great interview. Even an old curmudgeon like me couldn't help but love this guy.
Still don't believe he paid a load of money for shares though....! If it was me I'd say sack VK tomorrow and appoint him as manager.
If he asked me to run up Pendle Hill in a mankini and a straw boater I'd be off like a shot.
Well maybe more like a sloth but the passion would be there - it would just be burning on a very slow fuse.

the biggest take from it for me is there is no delusion there, he knows it's a battle, he knows it's hard work and he gives the impression they are up for the fight and it's very much more than a one season in the PL and done thing. Time will tell of course.

I like JJ Watt and have since before most people on here had ever heard of him. He's doing a lovely job representing the club. It still seems likely he's being paid to do so, hasn't invested in any meaningful way and it's very definite he has no say in how the club is run. We should enjoy him but we should also take this for what it is.

Re: JJ Watt...
You have to have a bit of common sense. I mean the guy is a great ambassador for the club and I have no doubt he is in great demand because he's funny, handsome, has a six pack and seems knowledgeable about sports.
In many ways he reminds me of myself.
But like me he wouldn't do all this for nothing.... If you believe the web sites he is worth something around £54 million, which in terms of the kind of investments being talked about is not a lot.
Would a guy like this really be working this hard and promoting the club this much if it was just based on a personal investment? I have my doubts.
But and this is a testament to him, I kind of half believe he might... Unfortunately, I'm from the Bob Lord generation of Burnleyite when the town didn't doff its cap so much so on balance naaah; but then again who knows.
I also like Bene and Hot, but can't drink a lot because a chubby belly ruins my six pack.

100%. Granted he could have been well briefed on what to say. However, the one thing that really gets me questioning whether it's just a monatery for him.... is why? The guy is so wealthy. He's popular, he's undoubtedly got streams of income and I just can't quite believe that this could be a purely financial thing for him.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 10:29 amI'm not sure that's the impression i got at all from watching this youtube video?
From it being announced, and pretty much consistently since, I've been pleasantly surprised by how emotionally invested he seems.
Did wonder whether his wife's career, and the potential for this to represent something they could work as a partnership on, was a decent motivator for him.
Telling comments about the investment in this as oppose to the NFL, allowing him to have significantly more input.
I maybe just a bit naive and prone to seeing the best, but his input is actually something I've enjoyed about this season.
Also quite liked listening to Williams, so do appreciate some of our more cynical fans may feel I'm just being suckered by a Pace PR machine.

Re: JJ Watt...
His career earnings I think are around $150 million dollars plus. His final 2 year contract was $35 million dollars. Its mega money for a sports star. Surely His likely return on an investment with us would pale into insignificance.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 10:47 amYou have to have a bit of common sense. He won't want to lose masses, but I just can't see how this could be a purely money driven move for him.
