Society is breaking down rapidly here........expect the same over there.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 8:54 pmA strange race. The twice Denver won the Superbowl the City was trashed and cars wrecked.
That is how to celebrate a win!!
I think we can blame the woke, political correctness ideology warriors for a lot of this.bfcjg wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:48 amIt's breaking down here, gangs run cities with impunity, various "groups" bring towns, cities, motorways etc to a stop to promote their agenda and the authorities look on, teachers threatened by parents for disciplining children, threatened with death threats if humanities is taught a certain way etc etc etc. Britain is going down the pan whilst we sit and just hope it won't affect us to much.
May I suggest putting down the Mail and going outside. It’s all a matter of perspective- the UK has never been a safer place to live.bfcjg wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:48 amIt's breaking down here, gangs run cities with impunity, various "groups" bring towns, cities, motorways etc to a stop to promote their agenda and the authorities look on, teachers threatened by parents for disciplining children, threatened with death threats if humanities is taught a certain way etc etc etc. Britain is going down the pan whilst we sit and just hope it won't affect us to much.

May I suggest you get your head out of the sand or Guardian and go live in these areas.claret2018 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:55 amMay I suggest putting down the Mail and going outside. It’s all a matter of perspective- the UK has never been a safer place to live.

Exactly this. It's mad how much the 'woke lefties' get blamed even though we've had an increasingly right wing government running the country for the last decade and a half.claret2018 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:55 amMay I suggest putting down the Mail and going outside. Yes, I agree, but if you look at the comment I was responding to, I wasn’t referring to the lunatic yanks running around with guns shooting people indiscriminately!!evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 11:53 amAnd I'm not sure many, if any, of the "woke, political correctness ideology warriors" - if indeed they exist - carry guns......
Extreme ideologies from both the left and the right never ends well and history shows that. It’s not as simple as saying it’s ’all the left or rights fault’ but it is reasonable to suggest that extreme ideologies from both sides are not good.
I reckon in the 15 years I've been here I've probably been in 40+ grocery stores, not once have I seen a single 'gun' related item let alone ammo in any of them.......and that includes 6.5 years living in Texas !!!
Yup 19 years living in Florida and exactly the same for me Only place I have ever heard a gun shot in my life was when I lived in Mayfair for a few months 20 years ago. Have seen guns etc for sale in Bass pro shops when buying a fishing Rod for my son but thats all.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 2:36 pmI reckon in the 15 years I've been here I've probably been in 40+ grocery stores, not once have I seen a single 'gun' related item let alone ammo in any of them.......and that includes 6.5 years living in Texas !!!

The “concerns” outlined in the post you replied to were folk protesting peacefully against climate change, teachers not being allowed to beat children, and folk over-reacting to an unvarnished version of history (ie warts and all, rather than the British Empire being unimpeachably good) being taught.Ampth7 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 2:28 pm.
...Right now, I do personally think that the extreme left woke PC brigade are seriously damaging our society in ways that aren’t always as obvious as when an extreme right ideology takes hold. Some of these concerns were identified in the post that I responded to.
yep, Bass Pro is the only place I've ever seen them. I've never been in a gun shop but I reckon I could probably find some there too !FCBurnley wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 2:52 pmYup 19 years living in Florida and exactly the same for me Only place I have ever heard a gun shot in my life was when I lived in Mayfair for a few months 20 years ago. But yet for some reason you have completely changed the words used in the post I was replying to in order to suit your own rhetoric? I wonder why that is?Greenmile wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 3:36 pmThe “concerns” outlined in the post you replied to were folk protesting peacefully against climate change, teachers not being allowed to beat children, and folk over-reacting to an unvarnished version of history (ie warts and all, rather than the British Empire being unimpeachably good) being taught.
If that’s “Britain going down the pan” then bring on the pan, I say.
I didn't say you were but linking the so-called demise of this country and the US to groups of people protesting against issues you clearly support is just as stupid.
I’ve been in the US for over 35 years like Vegas never had a problem with guns or ammo in California or Texas.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 2:36 pmI reckon in the 15 years I've been here I've probably been in 40+ grocery stores, not once have I seen a single 'gun' related item let alone ammo in any of them.......and that includes 6.5 years living in Texas !!!
Were the fans going to celebrate the Chiefs looking for it, or kids going to school looking for it......California Colner wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 5:01 pmI’ve been in the US for over 35 years like Vegas never had a problem with guns or ammo in California or Texas.
Like any Country in this world if you go looking for it you’ll find it. Uk included
Probably helps to move there after school age.California Colner wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 5:01 pmI’ve been in the US for over 35 years like Vegas never had a problem with guns or ammo in California or Texas.

Whereas absolving those groups of people protesting for issues you clearly support of any resposbility is just... what exactly?evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 4:51 pm...linking the so-called demise of this country... to groups of people protesting against issues you clearly support is just stupid...
But at no point am I actually labelling anyone specifically, including you for that matter! It’s a shame that you couldn’t at least return the favour!evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 6:43 pm"the PC, woke brigade who I personally feel are full of nonsense"....... Maybe you're right about people being "labelled one thing or another without any plausible point being made."![]()
Strange how people talk up Conservative Britain when it suits them. May I remind you that the tories have starved the police of resources, inflicted garbage policies on them and they are drowning in red tape and touchy feely policing but you insist they have made Britain safer than its ever been. Bizarre.claret2018 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:55 amMay I suggest putting down the Mail and going outside. It’s all a matter of perspective- the UK has never been a safer place to live.
So "the PC woke brigade" - whatever or whoever that might be - isn't a label?
Doesn't Walmart sell ammo? It may be limited by state but it definitely used to and I thought it still did.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 2:36 pmI reckon in the 15 years I've been here I've probably been in 40+ grocery stores, not once have I seen a single 'gun' related item let alone ammo in any of them.......and that includes 6.5 years living in Texas !!!
Never seen anything gun related in a single supermarket or generic sports store. The ONLY non gun shop place I've seen a gun in was Bass Pro Shops in the hunting section - but they absolutely has AR15's etc. You can't just go in and buy one from those stores though, they do (for what they are worth) the back ground checks and you have to go and collect once all that has been cleared, it's not something that takes an hour.
Anyone who unironically uses terms like “the PC woke brigade” is a) a Tory (or worse, such as Reform etc) and b) so divorced from reality as to be not worth listening to.Ampth7 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 6:32 pmIn response to those who have basically labelled me a far right wing Tory for some bizarre reason, here is my retort -
Firstly can I just remind you of the original comment that I responded to, here it is below just in case you forgot -
gangs run cities with impunity, various "groups" bring towns, cities, motorways etc to a stop to promote their agenda and the authorities look on, teachers threatened by parents for disciplining children, threatened with death threats if humanities is taught a certain way.
My original response was along the lines of arguing the point that I am concerned about the PC, woke brigade who I personally feel are often full of absolute nonsense which is not helping many of the above issues in my opinion. I also did point out that ideologies which are both far right or left are not good with history well and truly proving that point. How that makes me a Tory fanatic god only knows?
Back to my original point, maybe you’re right and we should banish all forms of discipline for children in schools and maybe we should allow and support people in breaking the law in protest by blocking motorways etc…? The PC woke brigade would be delighted by this!
Here’s the thing though with where we are at in society today for one reason or another - nobody can say anything or have an opinion anymore without offending someone. We used to be a bit tougher than that by calling it a debate which encouraged opinion and freedom of speech. Not so much nowadays proven by the many posts that I routinely see on message boards like this whereby people are immediately labelled one thing or another without any plausible point being made.
Just to reinforce the point, not that it’s anyone’s business, but I have voted for different parties throughout my life and I won’t be voting blue this time around or last time for that matter, for reasons which I am assuming are fairly obvious.
Got to say I'm surprised. Walmart was (maybe still is) the biggest gun retailer in the world. I know Dick's pulled assault rifles but I remember them selling loads of guns. This was some random big box sports shop I went to in Ohio for instance.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:35 pmNever seen anything gun related in a single supermarket or generic sports store. No need for any apology, it’s your opinion after all. Let’s also be clear that my opinion was absolutely and deliberately aimed in that way and I won’t apologise for that. Yes it is a label, but I’m not assuming you or anyone else for that matter falls into that label, but let’s not kid ourselves into believing it doesn’t exist.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:28 pmSo "the PC woke brigade" - whatever or whoever that might be - isn't a label?
I didn't notice a similarly scathing one applied to the right wing by you.
No apologies from me, I'm afraid, for pointing out the underlying bias of your post(s), deliberate or otherwise.
Okay coolGreenmile wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:08 pmAnyone who unironically uses terms like “the PC woke brigade” is a) a Tory (or worse, such as Reform etc) and b) so divorced from reality as to be not worth listening to.
Your freedom of speech extends to whining about “the wokerati” or whatever, of course, but my freedom of speech extends to labelling you however I choose, even if it may hurt your feelings.
I've only been into any Walmarts in Texas and Nevada and nothing, my brother lives in Wisconsin so I'll ask him if he's seen any up that way - he's never mentioned it and knowing how anti-gun he is I'm sure he would have done. It must vary by state as you say. Where do you live aggi ?aggi wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:09 pmGot to say I'm surprised. Walmart was (maybe still is) the biggest gun retailer in the world. It varies by state, nothing in NY for instance, but lots in Tennessee and Missouri.
