Team for Arsenal

Post by Westleigh » Fri Feb 16, 2024 4:40 pm

Thought we’d better have a post about football today ,lots of posts about other less important things .
Same team that finished last week but Esteve back in if he’s fit.

Trafford
Amdouni
O’Shea
Brownhill

all to definitely start. Rest including subs to be drawn out of the lucky dip bag tomorrow over breakfast.

Muric
Assignon O'Shea Esteve Taylor

Then

Berge
Brownhill
Odobert
Fofana

and two others, my preference would be Beyer and Foster but as they aren't fit, Massengo and Gudmundsson.

Unfortunately they'll be physically too big and strong for us tomorrow, especially when the two big men come up for set pieces.

Think you could have forgotten to include Ramsey in that short list 🤔 but to be fair I can't see anything wrong in O'Shea's inclusion, I'd say he's the most solid traditional central defender we have at present.

If Taylor is fit, and Beyer is fit I'd be tempted to play Bayer as a third centre half with O'Shea and Esteve, Assignon and Taylor as wing backs, Bownhill Berge and Ramsey in midfield and Odobert given licence either side of Fofana.

If either Taylor or Beyer isn't fit, then its a 442, possibly with Vitinho playing narrow on the right and Ramsey on the left, and again Odobert given some freedom off Fofana.

The other option would be to bring Cullen in alongside Berge and play Brownhill in a more roving role (akin to that he played under Dyche occasionally) with Ramsey (who I thought showed promise at Liverpool) and Odobert wide. My worry with that against Arsenal though is Odobert's defensive discipline - which is why I quite like the idea of him playing in a free role ahead of the midfield.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea but can’t see him changing formation now.

It's only what he finished with at City and played at home to Fulham. The difference is Beyer would play that role instead of Berge.

Beyer could sweep in front of the centre halves, and as I suggested yesterday is comfortable in a back three having played that role for Monchengladbach many times.

I went to the Emirates in November and starting with both JBG and Rodriguez was like playing with 9 men. Nothing against either-they have been good servants, but they are both finished in the PL

I don't want Beyer sweeping in front of the centre halves - I'd envisage him playing as an orthodox centre half in a back 3, probably on the right with O'Shea in the middle. It's a formation we used at home to City and have switched to a couple of times since, and with the personnel we have available I think it might be as good an option as any.

If we really go for it we could give Arsenal a right old game , which I think is our only hope. Same team as last week with Taylor in for Delcroix .

More disrespectful rubbish. We are likely to have little possession like we did that day. The positional discipline, work rate and experience of these two can be vital in those games.
Incredible that we managed to get close to a result at the Emirates with 9 men

As a massive Trafford fan I have to say Muric has to play tomorrow. Every other solely personally attributable error has been punished - Zaroury, Al Dakhil, Roberts, Ekdal etc etc
Anything less, then Kompany will lose his credibility with the players and it will be obviously be crass man management

Just seen the training photo gallery on the club app and Esteve appears to be training normally. I'm looking forward to a back 4 of Assignon, O'Shea, Esteve and Taylor, it's just a shame they'll be up against such a good free scoring side.

Trafford
Assignon, O’Shea, Esteve, Taylor
Massengo, Berge, Brownhill
Fofana, Jay, Odobert

I know people will say that is a strange choice but I just think if we fancy getting anything from it we need to fill out midfield and maybe go a little longer (I think Fofana playing of Jay will probably benefit both of them).

Not exactly sure on the team but at least six of them will look forlornly at each other as Trafford picks himself off the ground in another postcode while an Arsenal player sprints away to celebrate after nodding in a free header.

But I think VK will pick...

Assignon, O'Shea, Esteve, Delcroix
Brownhill, Ramsey, Berge, Odobert
Amdouni
Fofana

Very true, as you say every other player who has been poor in a game, or has seemingly upset vk off the pitch has been punished, surely it has to be Traffords turn, 90% of fan's and pundits and all can see he's just not up to this level, and he's weaknesses are exposed every outing, alas I think he'll be selected yet again.

Trafford is the only GK getting selected so no point writing Muric's name. Vitinho offers more defensively than any other of our wingers (not saying much I know) and JBG offers more as a 10 than amdouni and again is better defensively.

Very close to mine-only change for me would be to bring Cullen back for his exeroence at the expense of Ramsey. Thought Cullen was great v Spurs , his last game, playing just in front of the back four

I think you’ll find ‘pro Trafford fans’ are just Burnley fans that back the team our management puts out. They see far more of what goes on than we do.

Decision was made in July/August who the number 1 was to be. Continuously whinging on every thread since is just boring and odd.

Muric remains an injury/suspension from starting every game and I’m pleased we have two first team keepers (like every epl side).
