Benson
Every time I've seen one of these articles where 'Kompany adresses Benson's lack of game time' - he doesn't.

Re: Benson
You can blame Kompany for lots of things this season, but not his 5-day old Radio Lancs interview being regurgitated as click bait for another discussion on a tired topic.

Re: Benson
It was just an example of other articles, from other sources, that have rolled out the same non story.
Personally, I'd like to hear his true view on this.
Chances are we won't.

Re: Benson
I inferred from his words that he doesn’t think Benson has been good enough. His use of the word words “at this level” has given ammo to those who believe he has been unfairly overlooked, because he’s hardly played. I’m assuming Kompany also thinks certain levels need to be demonstrated in training, so it’s possible that he was looking at Benson’s performance across the whole spectrum of what he sees from him and not just the handful of minutes he’s had in the PL this season.

The whole scenario just begs the question why Kompany didn't let him go in January

What I do not understand is if Benson is not the level required why the hell did we extend his contract in the summer… makes no sense.

His comments would be valid if others had adapted but there isn't many wide men that have done well.
Also noted his comment regarding every player has had an opportunity to prove themself at this level, another lie I hope he isn't starting to go down that route.
It's a team full of players who haven't performed well so doesn't excuse Benson getting 100 minutes

Bruun Larsenn and Tresor can go but Benny, Anass, Luca and Wilf would be a nightmare for Championship FBs.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 4:09 pmWhat I do not understand is if Benson is not the level required why the hell did we extend his contract in the summer… makes no sense.

Maybe… seems very extravagant to be paying a seasons wages when there will be other and fresher options in the market that are potentially more long term use back in the Championship…. Especially as the aim in the summer was not to be returning to the Championship.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 5:16 pmOR: extended in preparation for the Championship next year. Re: Benson
I’m guessing VK thought he’d progress and he hasn’t. I haven’t a clue about VKs style of management but perhaps Benson just needs the old arm round the shoulder and to be told he is valued. We’ll need him next season though.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 4:09 pmWhat I do not understand is if Benson is not the level required why the hell did we extend his contract in the summer… makes no sense.

So how about a comment on Tressor a player who VK pursued for months Tressor looks disinterested and pxxx poor.

The interviewer really needed to follow up that question with "How on earth did Muric manage to lose the shirt, and how have all these very odd selection decisions affected squad morale, Vincent?"

Re: Benson
So then it would beg the question, of the four, benny anass luca and wilf, which 2 would be first choice. Can you imagine how bad Benny and anass would feel if they were behind luca and wilf after having already proved themselves in the Championship. And what an unenviable position vk would put himself in if that's how he see's it. All hypothetical yes, but.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 5:16 pmOR: extended in preparation for the Championship next year. I’d be starting with whomever is showing best through pre-season and training but would be quite happy with 60 minute subs to keep them all fresh. Benson got a pay rise
we tied down a key player from last season
helps us get a higher fee.
The same reason Cullen signed an extension, the part you’re missing though is Benson has never played PL football before, nobody knew if he’d make the grade, there was only one way to find out. I remember when VK gave him a start, he was absolutely fuming with him on the touch line.

A key player, or a player that the fans took to because he changed games after coming off the bench? VK several times stated Benson was not fit enough to start Championship games… so why give him a new contract knowing that we were going up another level and hoping to stay two levels above Benson’s (perceived) ability.KRBFC wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 12:02 pmDo you really need an answer for that?

Does any interviewer have the balls to ask searching questions , they still seem obsessed with Man City and Pep in half of them.
He’s another one that hasn’t made the step up apparently I love how his super fans just regurgitate what he says on here.

The very least he can do is give him the luxury of a few games in the side to show what he can do.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 1:24 pmA key player, or a player that the fans took to because he changed games after coming off the bench? Tresor got around 5 games when he showed absolutely nothing to warrant being in the side, fair’s fair!
His team selections show no logic whatsoever at present.

Re: Benson
Nothing would give me a bigger lift when I go to Palace Saturday in knowing Odobert is one wing and Benson the other. Before anyone on here starts telling me we need JBG for his defensive duties-sorry I cant live with that. We need a win against Palace, not setting up for a draw or defeat. If we play two proper full backs and a midfield three of Brownhill/Cullen/Berge , we wont need that cover

How can he know that when he's played a mere stop/start 100 minute's, there's several other's who haven't matched up to the required standard yet have been selected week on week, 1 in particular has played every minute of the season, and as I've repeatedly said he'd be better suited to the Sunday league.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 9:29 pmWell the manager would hardly torpedo his own boat, so you can fairly safely assume that MB hasn't matched up to the required standard.

Didn’t do overly much when he came on for a few minutes today.
Re: Benson
He did what he does, he demands the ball and takes responsibility. I thought he played well.
In fact i thought that final bunch of changes left us with an interesting template to build up play.
Cork dropping right, Cullen left and Berge central with Benson always showing as well.
Id quite like to see us continue that experiment next week.
