Brownhill’s reaction

Saw someone mentioned this on another thread. Just interested to get the thoughts for those who saw his smile while walking down the touchline after his sending off. Was he talking with another sub warming up or was he cracking a smile because he knew he’d been hung out to dry by a pass he never should have got. Either way, be interesting to see if he’s straight back in the team after his ban.

someone said something in the crowd, obviously banter and it's normal human behavior to smile at something that is funny. Plenty are hitting him with that stick as well though as seems to be the trend nowadays.

I hated seeing our captain smile as he got sent off in a must win game, annoyed me probably more than it should’ve.

It's probably in keeping with everything else that's going on at the moment. It's perceived in some circles as 1 big joke & it shouldn't come as any real shock to anybody if people laugh or smile. The place is turning into a circus.

The time where we had any must win games is long gone.

I'm more concerned about the first thought to pull the player back.
It wasn't a thing until Vinny came.

If you train to pull some one back with the cynical fouls, it becomes your first thought

It ended Corks career for me, Vinny asking him to pull down any player who might counter attack.
Yellow card after yellow card stops players being affective.

It’s the Man City Way.
Lose the ball and bring down the opposition at all costs. The difference with Burnley trying this is that we lose the ball all the time….where as City rarely do. But yet we persist in doing it.

I don’t think the smile is anything to get hung up about. The lads just been sent off and he’ll have all sorts of emotions running through his head. I have great sympathy for him, the ball he received from Trafford was totally unnecessary.

I’m not a mind reader but Brownhill was given a crazy pass that was nowhere near him and he tried his best to stop u sconcedimg rightly or wrongly ..

I'm guessing Brownhill's smile might have something to do with him and his teammates being unable to fathom why Trafford is totally undroppable, even though he makes pretty much a match changing error every game and this particular one had cost Brownhill very dear.

I don’t blame Brownhill one bit for the sending off. Traffords pass was prime David Jones style, pass to anyone to get rid even if they are marked, ( especially if they are marked )

He knows he was put in an impossible position.

How anyone can blame Brownhill in any way is beyond me. Trafford messed up 100% and Brownhill simply paid the price for it. And ultimately the team paid the price!

I’ve not seen the video of Brownhill smiling/ laughing.

Was it not just a nervous or embarrassed smile whilst being heckled by the crowd?

I wouldn’t be smiling myself if that mug of a keeper had played that pass out to me. I’d be waiting in the changing room for half time to tell him what I thought about it.

I hope Trafford pays Brownhill fine for that

It was the very definition of a “hospital pass” and the stupid thing was he had two unmarked options out wide

Not saying that Muric plays a worldy pass in the exact same set of circumstances as yesterday, but Muric has exceptional vision and allows us to get out of the oppositions press through finding the space.

Trafford plays simple passes into either centre half or Brownhill. Palace and Lerma knew this. You see Lerma set off pressing before the ball has left Trafford’s boot. It’s happened numerous times and his limitations are there for all to see. Teams know he isn’t going to fire an accurate pass in behind like Muric did so effectively for Tella last season.

I think Brownhill's smile is one of relief that he will be out of the firing line in this abysmal team for a few games! .........I suspect there's quite a few in that team wish they had an enforced break.

To be honest there were 5 or 6 of our players who I felt did not care and just wanted the game to end, so any reaction from Brownhill formed part of that apathy. I have not witnessed that attitude in a team since Stan was manager. I am really struggling to see how morale can be lifted in the next dozen or so games

Exactly this. But your nickname is a good clue, and that's what Trafford should have done, there's time's in all games when there comes a point where you have to launch it, Trafford clearly doesn't see this danger, or doesn't see it soon enough, like he doesn't see a lot of other things. As for Brownhill, I particularly noticed he's look towards Trafford as it all unfolded, and then the smile followed, love to know what went through he's mind, he also seemed to say something under his breath, what was it I wonder.

I suspect the wry smile was along the lines of you’re s**t fella.

The smile near palace fans was obviously in response to a comment from them.

I personally see no issues with a wry smile - yes he could have not pulled him back and let Trafford either pull off a save or face the consequence of his poor pass, but I’d be much more aggrieved if it was Trafford smiling knowing what he’d just done.

Don’t think this means much in isolation. He was probably just reacting to a crowd comment. It’s just not want you want to see with such a lack of effort and purpose. There no way the players buy in to what they are being told to do anymore. I’m not sure how this can be changed now by the management.

Brownhill is a professional footballer enduring a humiliating afternoon's work being laughed at and taunted by a bunch of morons. He's going to face the anger of his manager and be banned for 3 games.

What kind of an idiot would think that he wouldn't care about that...?

The person responsible for the sending off is VK. Trafford obviously has had it drummed into him to pass out to a cm in such circumstances. Its utterly crazy and EVERYONE we play is ready for it. The stubborness on this and especially not playing 3 proper cm is appalling and no we can't get rid of VK and his hopeless management team because we can't afford it and would be left with 2 dozen of his players, with only a handful any good.

It’s a normal reaction when you’ve been shafted for me. It’s just pure exasperation to yet another cock up. If you don’t laugh you’ll cry etc. I still want him out of the side for a bit though as I get the feeling he wants off.

Don't see anyone giving out bOllockings on the pitch.

Sad that it takes a sending off and a ban for Brownhill , for Cullen to get a place in the playing 11. One of the the few of our players who looked comfortable yesterday in taking the ball, and put a proper shift in. I appreciate he does not have the physique and athleticism for this cruel League , but the absolute minimum for this team now until end of season is matching Cullen's desire and enthusiasm

I was confused because a single picture without context can be interpreted in many ways.

Having watched what had happened - I didn't see/pick up on the frame that was screenshot but having seen what had happened and knowing what a servant Josh has been to this club, I couldn't for one minute believe that he found what he had done funny.

My interpretation was either its one of those things "if you don't laugh, you will cry" type situations where if it wasn't for bad luck we wouldn't have any luck at all type feeling. A disbelief that he was put in that situation and that he is now finding his afternoon over because of that **** decision by his young keeper.

or

Someone in the crowd has said something to him and he has just smiled to show its not getting to him.

Some fans should have their social media accounts taken off them - it was shameful in my view how quick we were to have a pop. I bet the people behind these accounts would be the first to want to get a selfie or tell a player how much they support them if they met them in real life.

Unfortunately social media brings out the worst in people and actually provides people a platform to help them feel probably more important than they are.

Beggars belief how one could criticise Josh for the foul he committed after that daft pass by Trafford (avoiding a certain goal), let alone his cynical reaction afterwards.

Only Trafford to blame here I’m afraid and I’m sure our goalie apologised to him afterwards

I’ve been highly critical of Brownhill’s performances this season, but this is hardly worth getting your knickers in a twist about. Comes across as more of a ‘it never rains but it pours’ smile.

I hope he didn’t face the anger of his manager? If he did it would be tempting to tell him what he really thought, but I guess no one in this squad will challenge Kompany even though we are sinking faster than an East End gangster with concrete wellies on.
Can you imagine if Tarks was still at the club and was sent off for similar circumstances as Brownhill? I don’t think he would have held back and would have questioned why Kompany was persisting in putting this guy in goal week in, week out. But probably using more industrial language.
