Yes he’s at a top club but I’m not sure that he gets remotely close to the plaudits that he deserves. He’s a master of his craft. A joy to watch.

After De Bruyne, he’s the best midfielder in the league.

I would go as far as saying Foden has been the best player in the league this season, he’s stepped it up a level this season

As a side note Englands front four right now is arguably our best in a very very long time.

The only problem with the 4 is Saka and Foden both left footed, both so dangerous cutting in from the right

Interestingly most of Fodens goals actually come from him playing on the left (I know I found that strange as well).

Personally I think this is how England line up at Euros (midfield onwards)

Foden and Bellingham have the have the whole England squad built around them. They are the two world class ones. Other good players then fit around that.

Re Odegaard, a lovely player, just what we are missing up front, could have done with his mate Berge kidnapping him and sticking a claret shirt on him.

Kane, Foden Saka, with Bellingham and Rice behind them, is a frighteningly good base to build around.

How about the defence though, walker always solid but the other positions I'm not so sure. Hopefully Stones will be much better at international level now, but much as I like his resilience dear god please not Maguire!

I suspect that should be Phillips AND Henderson!

Watching Burnley this season should give more than enough evidence of why you need Rice and one other defensive midfielder in the team to enable the flair players to properly flourish.

I read something recently about Foden which suggested he isn’t as effective when coming off the left hand side as he is centrally or on the right. I don’t watch him enough to know if that is true or not. I like Mainoo and think he should be part of the squad and against certain teams France etc I wouldn’t be against that team being tried. For me though I want him to be central alongside Bellingham and Rice, with maybe Rashford Kane and Saka ahead of them.

I tell you what, I’ve got to say, I don’t care what anyone says, that Ally McCoist is an absolutely terrific co-commentator, he really is.

doesn't need to be on his line, as long as both feet aren't in front of it it's fine (afaik) and his right foot was comfortably behind

I didn't know that it could be in the air but in line with the goal line. Still, he timed that close to perfection with a bit of wiggle room to spare.
