Wooden spoon derby
Sheff u versus Burnley to come… we’ve been poor this season but somehow there’s a team worse. Hard to believe we both tore up the championship last year and Luton scraped into the prem but are at least making a fist of it this year. We need to beat Sheffield again, set down some sort of marker for next season, dust ourselves down and we go again UTC

Re: Wooden spoon derby
Burnley must have had about a good 80% of the possession on Saturday yet failed even to score a single goal despite that, really frustrating to watch.Cornwallclaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 9:01 pmSheff u versus Burnley to come… we’ve been poor this season but somehow there’s a team worse. Our record at Bramall Lane is really poor. That said Sheffield United look absolutely dreadful so maybe we can sneak a result there this time.

1st goal wins, because neither team has what it takes to make a fight back.

Re: Wooden spoon derby
It'd just be the cherry on top of the cake of this dreadful
season if we lost.
Not particularly confident about our chances when we play ANY team atm, whether they're garbage or not.

Re: Wooden spoon derby
Other than the Turf it was the first ground I ever saw us win at. That was in the FA Cup 6th round in 1962. There have only been two wins there since.JohnMcGreal wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 11:26 amOur record at Bramall Lane is really poor. I knew we didn't win there that much, and having been at off top of my head the FA Cup game 2-2, a 3-2 win there and a 3-3 draw I would never have guessed it was that bad.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 11:42 amOther than the Turf it was the first ground I ever saw us win at. Oh well it's either 19th or 20th we finish then

Re: Wooden spoon derby
Also a great 0-2 win in August 1973, our first game of the season on our return to the First Division. A very smart away kit, a brilliant performance and a team spirit probably as good as anything I've ever witnessed in over 65 years of watching us. Heady times.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 11:53 amI knew we didn't win there that much, and having been at off top of my head the FA Cup game 2-2, a 3-2 win there and a 3-3 draw I would never have guessed it was that bad.

Great team Silky. I was there that day and seem to recall Doug Collins running the show.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 12:40 pmAlso a great 0-2 win in August 1973, our first game of the season on our return to the First Division. Re: Wooden spoon derby
The 3-2 there under Coyle was brilliant, comfortably Chris Eagles best game for us. I can't see there being quite the same buzz about the place this time. Still going to go though, just because it's a convenient day out.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 11:53 amI knew we didn't win there that much, and having been at off top of my head the FA Cup game 2-2, a 3-2 win there and a 3-3 draw I would never have guessed it was that bad.

Re: Wooden spoon derby
We actually finished 10 points ahead of the Blades last season, another indicator of our regression this season.

Don't tell me that that's a serious question!

Yeah he was excellent that day. Sheffield is a decent day out too and a better standard of residents that the other major city in Yorkshire.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 1:06 pmThe 3-2 there under Coyle was brilliant, comfortably Chris Eagles best game for us. It really isn't. It's an indicator of how far ahead the PL is of the Championship.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 1:07 pmWe actually finished 10 points ahead of the Blades last season, another indicator of our regression this season.

No one gets into the right place at the right time. Re: Wooden spoon derby
You’re comparing a league of 46 games vs Championship opposition against 38 against Premier League opposition, which are miles above Championship.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 1:07 pmWe actually finished 10 points ahead of the Blades last season, another indicator of our regression this season.
The fact we were only 10 points better than them was probably a clear indication we weren’t as good as we thought we were, actually.
But also it wasn’t really our team given 30% of our outfield players were loans.

Re: Wooden spoon derby
Almost certainly the lowest standard 'top flight' game you'll ever see, and I'm 100% there for it. Get it first on MOTD. Backpasses getting sliced into the crowd, three consecutive passes getting 'oles', hapless defending. Genuinely looking forward to it.. proper lower league football but in the biggest league in the world.

Re: Wooden spoon derby
it's going to be interesting to see how the promoted teams get on next season, I'm where you are with it at this moment in time. Saints conceding 3 at Birmingham, Leicester losing at home to QPR, Leeds not winning away at Huddersfield who had 10 men for a half doesn't smack of teams that will do well in the PL. I might of course be very wrong.

funnily enough I think it's now our most and last important game of the season, we need to go there and win.

I must have seen one of them when I guess we were both at Uni in the early 70s. Peter Noble was unplayable and his heading incredible.
