The Premier League's worst bottom two

I've just been trawling through to see what the lowest number of points has been from the bottom two in the Premier League in a season and found these two.

2004/05 - 45 points - West Brom (30) and Sunderland (15)
2021/22 - 45 points - Watford (23) and Norwich (22)

I was wondering whether that might be beaten this season.

And those stats include when Derby went down with 11 or 12 points and 09-10 seas0n when Portsmouth deducted points for administration
Personally cannot see either team getting 20 points.
In fact we might make 35.

Whilst you were at it did you see what the biggest difference in points was between the third and fourth bottom sides?

I can’t recall a season where three teams have all been doomed early on (though there will have probably been one or two at some point).

I suspect we might end up seeing all three relegated sides down with a good three or four games to go this year.

That one is easy - it was 2020/21

Burnley 39

West Brom 26
Sheffield United 23

Off chance Everton could relegate us. Even Forest only need to gain another 7 points over us but chances of that in next 5 games not great.

Looking at our form and Sheffield United's form, IMO the likely total is 28 (if we draw with them) or 29 (if either side wins). However bad we looked against Arsenal, they were many times worse.

Owen and Brian ensured that we have the most EPL defeats away from home in a season with 17, now Vinny is gunning for the home defeat record which I was surprised to find is held by Watford when they went down with us in 2021/22 with 15.

We are also in the running for the least number of points at home in a season, a proud record currently held by Sunderland in 2005/2006 when they managed seven. They also jointly hold the record for the total number of defeats for that season with 29. On current form we could be heading to pick up that accolade as well.

Who says the games are all dead rubbers there is nothing left to play for this season?

I still find it hard to believe Derby were as bad as they were in their infamous record breaking season in the Premier League.

To put it into context, we have already scored 5 more goals and conceded 29 less (would need to lose average of 2.6 goals a game for the rest of the season to match it) and have 2 more points already. They were the first team in Premier League history to be relegated in March (29th).

They also only stayed out of the relegation zone for the first 2 games of the season and some bookies were paying out bets on relegation after gameweek 5.

When you out it like that it might rekindle my enthusiasm for attending. I hate it when there is nothing to play for but we could pick up a number of records.

I don’t think there’ll be any Burnley fans happy with how this season has turned out, but a few posters seem to be getting a huge amount of satisfaction from it.

I quite enjoy not being crap on our own, it could have been very lonely down the bottom if not for Sheff Utd.
