Recruitment
Recruitment
So we're now bottom of the league with our flops, what has VK got his recruitment data based on?
We had a great squad last season, wingers scoring goals, keeper keeping clean sheets, players in the team of the year, all had played for a winning title side yet we swapped them out because VK said they wasn't good enough but he replaced them with....
Trafford a League 1 keeper.
O'Shea an average championship centre half.
Koleosho who'd made about 4 appearances for a struggling Espanyol.
Amdouni from the Swiss league.
Ramsey who's stats in the championship didn't match our wingers but got minutes.
Bruun Larsson who was playing on loan in Belgium.
Delcroix from the Belgium league.
So how have all these players proved they'd perform any better than the title winning squad?
No wonder we're bottom of the league, we stole Sheff Utds best player and have still gone worse than them.

You cannot play so open and expect the possession that team had last year.
We are a young team and it has shown. They will get wiser and stronger - just hasn't come quick enough this season.

We haven't seen that at all this season, I think last season's team would have more points now without a doubt because they'd have run through brick walls for VK.

But we've been better them for over two thirds of the season and now we're worse after they gain a point?
Mmm, OK, I'd prefer to wait until the end of the season.

There's not much in it it's a sad state of affairs when the last chink of positivity rests on not finishing bottom & that's all realistically that's left of a dark season that could & should have been far different.

Give over will you. Its more complicated than that. i.e. 3 key players were not here this season, 1 of our defenders missing for large periods etc.bumba wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2024 6:18 pmLast season's team had a winning mentality and momentum, they showed heart and desire at times last season.

Over simplifying the situation to fit an agenda and view. A view you are perfectly entitled to but not one I agree with.
Anyway- have we played today?
To come on here they day before we have even kicked a ball to have a pop at how poor the team is - really?

Big season not only for his career but the club next year, cant say im as confident as some on here that we will romp the championship. Lets see where we are at Christmas. I really really hope we have a competent keeper as No.1 at the start of the new season.
Apart from Kolo who was a bargain most of the big money has been wasted on shockers. We are going to be lumbered with those for many years to come unless someone is daft enough to take them off our hands. I hope we finally get rid of Weghorst too.

Beggars belief.
What Kompany has done this season has been a disaster. How the hell he still has a job is unbelievable aswell.

I think most of us are very disappointed at how this season has panned out. Probably the above poster hoping that the constant, incessant criticism of the club regarding all possible points can be reduced. It’s the same old tired comments every day.

Re: Recruitment
Our only home win was against them and it was a 5-0 hammering. Tells you all you need to know about them.
We've a better squad with heaps more potential at the level below than their team of more or less journeymen.
Generally accepted by the wider media that we've been better and should have more points than we have...and the last few weeks excepted...we should.
Stop bedwetting.

Re: Recruitment
It's also recognised by the wider media that generally speaking they are a different proposition under wilder than when we previously hammered them. Yes they might have been convincingly beat recently on more than 1 occasion but they aren't alone in that respect. Wilder since being reappointed is outgunning Kompany in points hauled that's the stark reality.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 11:47 amOur only home win was against them and it was a 5-0 hammering. Re: Recruitment
Most people "agreed" with the sacking of SD for 1 main reason - the football particularly that season was dire. But this season has proved you have to dog points out.
We changed to VK who plays "football" and again once we hit the premiership fans are saying the football been pretty dire and the results even worse.
My dad said that this season because the quality levels has gone up and we obviously don't attack and penetrate nowhere near as much as last season the football has put him to sleep.
Moving forward is the happy medium or the survival route for the premiership a mixture of SD and VK ? Dunno - but 1 things for sure (with the help of Jacko as well) even in SD "dire season" we went to last game beat Newcastle and we stayed up - we have been a million miles so far this season for that scenario.

Re: Recruitment
There are many angles to recruitment.
Part is to identify undervalued talent. Which I believe we have succeeded at. Even those struggling have shown they have the technical ability to be assets, but young players, in a new team, in a new league, in a different country, are going to take time to settle. Our league form is a knock on effect of our inability to find a platform to build on.
The second part should be to target the areas on the pitch most in need of improvement/stabilising. In this we've failed badly.
Where Southampton succeeded in their prime, was identifying what position they wanted filling. They then made a list of all the attributes they wanted in that player. When they knew what they were looking for they would scout hard and come up with a shortlist of half a dozen players who fitted the bill. They'd then sit around a table and disect them into who was the main target, who was the most affordable etc. And after all that, you don't chuck them into an inexperienced side in the Prem, you ease them into a team.

I would be happy to have any manager that at least attempts to play attacking football. Passing it around the back ad infinitum is not what I want to see.kenyon6923 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 12:27 pmMost people "agreed" with the sacking of SD for 1 main reason - the football particularly that season was dire. Kicking it up into the air was getting ridiculous under Dyche in his last season. A long ball or two when it’s warranted is okay as long as there is an end product to it. Just kicking it up into the air as your main attacking move is just mindless.
A team that shows fighting spirit and shows some back bone should be the minimum standard.
