Froggies have been a courtin' in my pond too, noticed the spawn a few days ago but I didnt hear the nighttime racket they made (thankfully) because my hearing has become so bad.

On one of my regular walks (In the new(ish) town I live in) I pass a longish row of older houses with more established gardens. Each year I track the development of the magnolia which are in their gardens.
Buds were developing nicely 23 rd Feb, there was a frost a couple of days later which (thankfully) hasnt buggered them up. Not exactly developed fully in the following 2 colder/windier weeks but getting there and should be in full splendour soon.

Not quick enough to get a photo but - I saw my first butterfly off 2024 yesterday. As usual, in the area I live, it was a Brimstone (male in this case). Im not sure if they're quite so widespread in northern England/Scotland but very common in Hampshire. Not my photo but...

ALP, have you been noticing more curlews this year? I'm not sure whether I've been lucky, or if they are doing a little better, because I've heard more calling than last year while out on my local patch. I hope so, because they are on the Red List. Sadly fewer lapwings, though, as per.

Certainly more Curlews round here ... we often see them when we go for a walk up on LP moor and driving to Skipton.

This is good to hear. They may have had a decent breeding season last year. Let's hope it continues.

I'd say they've nested lower, which makes them more noticeable. Agree about the Lapwings.
Saw our local Hen Harrier female with a Lapwing, which ain't gonna help.
