I've just found out a fellow Claret passed away on Saturday.

I never met him but got to know him well through FB. He ran a group dedicated to our local heritage.

It's come as a real shock. Even though I'd never met him he'd come to mean a lot to me. He was always optimistic about his beloved Burnley.

I don't know how old he was but I'd say 50 tops.

Sad, sad news.

Do not recognise the name (I don’t do fb) but any Claret and especially one interested in local history is a loss I mourn.

Hate to read these threads. 50 is no age. Rest in peace Paddy.

Terrible news when any one dies at such a young age. Add the fact he's a claret and the fact he shared a love of our local history and I'm incredibly saddened.

Seems we're constantly having our history removed. Time moves on and so must we. It doesn't make it any easier. RIP fellow Claret.

I haven't put his surname on here because I'm not sure it's the right thing to do.

Paddy lived in Colne. He was extremely interested in The Titanic and I'm sure many people on here know the bandmaster on that ill-fated ship came from Colne (Wallace Hartley). Paddy had done a great deal of research concerning Mr Hartley and was in contact with the Titanic Museum in Belfast. They were very interested in his research. As a non-professional researcher, that was a major achievement.

He was also very interested in The Bronte Sisters.

He'd not had an easy life but, like Tony on here, he had run a group on FB for Clarets' fans. He pulled a plug on it because of the hassle and vitriol he received.

That's why he switched to local heritage on FB but with weekly mentions of our club (when it's in your blood...).

I do marvel at Tony's perseverance. I've taken stick in the past for defending Tony. I don't always agree with Tony (that would be impossible) but I defend him because without him and Di Braidio for the IT wirzadry and the moderators, we wouldn't have UTC.

Paddy's death has reminded me, if I needed reminding, of the damn hard work people do for others when running sites, blogs, FB groups etc.

As we're not (thankfully) a "big" club, it's inevitable that some folk on here knew Paddy.

I hope it's possible but obviously the club decides.

Some people might think it strange that I'm moved by a "stranger"'s death. But I am. It's a positive side of the Internet that we can be moved by the loss of people we've never met.

Everybody was moved when Spades passed away to name but one person. I never met the lady but she was exactly that, a lady.
