My wife has recently bought a new car that has obly come with one key (we were aware before we purchased the car). Anybody know any where local to get a replacement that won't cost the earth? The car has the stop start button so no physical key just the fob.
thanks in advance.

Make and model Matt? The problem with lots of dealers is that they source vehicles that are ex fleet, or ex rental, and the lease or rental company always keep 1 key at their HQ, when the car is first registered, and it never sees the light of day. A new key can cost up to £400, depending on make and model, and will need coding to the car.

Can only share my experience when I lost a key in London somehow… Car was relatively new (<5 yo) and so no means of getting one reprogrammed by anyone other than main dealer. £375 for key and reprogramming.
They make you go in to the dealership with ID and vehicle docs before ordering a key. Payment upfront. Then book you in for two weeks later to programme it for you.

Yeah, you usually have to prove you are the registered keeper. Your ID, and the V5 in your name for the vehicle.

I used Lockies auto Locksmiths....based in Leeds.
Came over in a van and sorted my new key...
Very reasonable and worth a call.

I got a fob and key a couple of years ago from the locksmiths in Barrowford , absolutely brilliant service and a reasonable price.

You need to Google replacement car keys. Independent operators will be far cheaper than the main dealer. It’s worth doing as it will increase your car value when you eventually sell

I paid £100 for a key with push button start but that’s in Norwich I’m afraid. There are plenty of locksmiths about that will be much cheaper than a dealer.

When my Discovery key was coming to the end of its life it went to Land Rover on Lomeshaye who said a new one would be over £400 at least. He then took me to one side, and whispered to get up Birros at Colne, who did it for half that amount!
