County Championship 2024

With the start of the County Championship just three weeks away, I thought it’d be good to start a new thread for the upcoming red ball campaign.
Lancashire have a tough start against Surrey, but we should also be mindful at this point that we are an inclusive community here and we absolutely welcome our friends who follow that local team who so very nearly qualified for the minor-counties league.
Yorkies start their campaign against Leicestershire and no doubt will be looking to have the maximum points bagged up inside of three days.
Enjoy the season, everyone.
Looking out of the window this morning, it’s utterly bonkers to think that the domestic season will get underway in three weeks from now.

Yorkshire might be dangerous this year…. Having cymbals Bairstow playing a full season at his level will be a benefit to them….. surely he’ll play for them? And won’t be in the England side this summer.

membership renewed, attending the surrey game on the Sunday. Lyon a great signing and some really good young players coming through, Top 3 are massive for us.
The new developments in Farrington coming on a pace.
Must admit im looking forward to a few days at old Trafford and plenty at euxton cricket club,

I think Lyon will be a great appointment and should definitely help the young spinners. Bohannon was named as vice captain this week - hope he continues his impressive form from last year. Interesting to see that Darren Gough stepped down yesterday as the Yorkies director of cricket after “stabilising the team” last year. Looking forward to my “home” game at the Spitfire ground in June !

Difficult to see past Surrey with them strengthening the batting.
Hopefully the weather improves and Lyon gets a few favourable pitches.

The issue is that with CC games in April and September it this is not conducive to either Hartley or Lyon having too much joy from the pitches. Can’t see past Surrey either hopefully the Manchester weather might save us from our first defeat. Day 2 is Everton away.

Great season ahead for Lanky, master stroke getting a local lad in, Nathan Lyon will do well, especially with the core of the team being born and bred Lancastrians like Luke Wells, the locals at EOT will be right behind their own.

Good Luck Bodge in managing your non serviceable huge debt over at Yorks.
At least two ‘cup finals’ for you to look forward too …

Lancashire were due to play their first domestic friendly tomorrow. Unsurprisingly it’s been cancelled.
I imagine it’s going to be a slow start to the season.

Seven of the first nine at a time when the conditions will probably be least favourable for him

Agreed a world class bowler like Lyon deserves better, the County Championship will never produce spinners given the bl..dy intrusion of the Hundred.

Think it would be a good idea to try and cancel that contract and bring Morley back upthecolne

I see at Old Trafford the start was delayed today because of HSE concerns about removing the covers.
Doesn’t look like being a result in any of the games, which shows how daft it is to start the CC first week in April just to accommodate the Hundred.

It was suspended due to ‘adverse weather conditions’ which in reality was 48 mph winds - so yes a HSE issue.
Unfortunately CC games in both April and September are now the
norm for the ECB.

Yorkshire could still lose - 18 wickets lost in a day with a follow on plus an extended finish time ( weather permitting)
Had to scroll right to the bottom of the BBC website to get the Yorkshire scores - but hey that’s Division 2 for ya!

Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, Lords has seen almost 1100 runs in three days and only 8 wickets.
Wouldn't it be better to start the season with that hundred nonsense.

9 matches - 9 draws over 2 divisions
When will the ECB realise they are killing CC cricket
by scheduling 4 day games in April and September just to accommodate a competition that’s not played anywhere else in the world.
Reckless.

18 games played….. 1 result achieved, and very little excitement in the other 17 games. Average players scoring massive runs, bowlers getting no assistance in anything….. a pointless 72 days of cricket all round to be honest.
At least the Manchester monster munch will get to represent people from Manchester in the franchise nonsense.

Lancs batting at Notts having won the toss. Pitch looks quick.
Also..... a quiz question. When was the last Yorkshire CCC county championship win at Headingley?

Did the Aussies specify which games he had to miss? Seems odd we would leave him out in these conditions.

Well Dan with regard to the quiz question the stat is probably somewhat distorted. As Yorkshire is the largest county in the UK there will be a requirement to use a number of "out grounds" in order to satisfy the membership and additionally to minimise the use of a test venue.

No idea. I believe they said he could play 7 of the first 9.
I’d guess they probably have done given he played in the ones with an awful forecast.
