Probably too many pubs in the area, especially when competing with Miners and Royal Dyche.

They've updated their social media today about this afternoons singer so yesterday must have been a one off.

I'm still waiting (in vain) for The Talbot to re-open.

Yeah and that one was a good one for Ale quality and footy on the box.

Not sure what goes in the Talbot these days but something dodgy. Full of smack heads coming in and out. Looks like it still has the bar decor as well.

What’s the former hotel opposite being used for these days? me thinks it was briefly used for housing some University students a while ago.

They are filming bar scenes in the Talbot for Bank of Dave 2, at the minute.
They got quite a bit of stick for filming in Leeds last time.

Yep, noticed that myself. I was walking past and the door was open, all lit up, people at the bar, music.
I approached for a closer look and the door was shut on me fairly forcibly.
Very strange.

Try The Swan. Footy on and Wainwrights and Thwaites Original. And cheap.

Yes saw that today, this has been going on for the last 12 months at least though, I drive past there to and from work and there's all sorts going in and out. I thought it was a crack den or a knocking shop maybe.

I was walking past a few months ago, some murky looking chaps outside the front door of the hotel suggesting they’d bought it and were turning it into a multi occupancy accommodation………..presumably DHSS. Seems nothings happened since.

What a shame eh, still on the positive side maybe good for the DHSS people I hope.

Been told by one of the ex regulars that it's been bought by Spar to extend their store.
Pity, good pub.

Sparrow Hawk was bought with the intention of turning it into a ‘hotel’, Burnley Council said they would only approve it if it was a ‘proper’ hotel with paying guests etc., work never began. Make of this what you will.

yeah it was planned for short term lets/emergency accomodation. Basically asylum hostel. use was denied, it'll go back up for sale soon i imagine. no need for another hotel. certainly of that size

I wonder if they could turn it into decent quality studio flats for longer term let. Shame to have it just sitting there.
Keirby wants pulling down, but Sparrow Hawk is such a nice looking building it would be a shame to pull it down. I guess they could keep the facade and build something completely new behind.

A real shame and waste that the building is just standing there unused.

The Circ and it’s sister bars on Bank Parade have all been put up for sale.

I don't know what will become of The Sparrow, but it will never be a hotel again, in the true sense of the word. Things might have been different if there was the demand, and it had a large secure car park, but it doesn't.
I just hope it doesn't turn into another dumping ground where councils, from the leafier parts of the country, send their 'problems'.

Hopefully someone takes it on. I imagine the Inn on the Wharf putting live music on and drawing some of the older crowd up there hasn't helped. Was in there Saturday after the game and the barmaid said matchdays had been a lot quieter.

I think they have had quite a few break ins in the last year or so.
It will be soul destroying for the owners.

The problem at the moment is that property landlords see Burnley as a cash cow, given they can pick up substantial properties for relative peanuts. They then charge the national rate back to the government department and probably get their outlay back very quickly, maybe a couple of years.
This kind of short term rental does nothing for the Burnley economy.
Its time these type of rentals are spread evenly and fairly across the whole of the UK.
The Council seem to be aware that Burnley is a major HMO planning target for out of town investors.

I wonder if any of our American owners are in on it yet.

They are filming Bank of Dave in The Talbot this evening. I’ve just drove past now and there’s quite a setup in place.

It also won't have helped that only one of the three pubs (the original) was any good with the other two being increasingly grim as you headed down the road, and even that original one was nothing special.
