Leicester
In news that will surprise nobody, Leicester now charged with breaching PSR rules while in the PL and also under investigation by the EFL:

Points deduction likely to hit next season.
With Leicester, Chelsea and City all likely to get points deductions next year, the Premier League table could look interesting.

Any of chance of us having points added on for weakening our team by over spending?

No, it’s a 3 year cumulative loss that’s measured and the last season we were in this league we turned a profit.

The football client journos are out in force this morning, putting Leicester’s defence across.
If you ever wondered how the likes of John Percy gets inside transfer info from the midlands clubs, wonder no more.

Be interesting to get Gary Lineker's view on the cheating and possible corruption involved.

Re: Leicester
“Leicester have obviously got that thing hanging over them as well, a points deduction, which if they do go up they could get right at the start of next season, so they could start with minus six or something. That would be bloody depressing,” said Lineker.
“The rules are the rules and if you break them - it may or may not be my team - but I would criticise the management and the club at that point, if that is indeed the case.”
There you go.

Re: Leicester
So that is Everton, Forest and now Leicester who can't afford the same legal team as Man City and the PL are brave enough to punish them.

Re: Leicester
Hard to see how they can’t end up over the 105m loss limit given they lost a combined 125m in the previous 2 seasons. They would need to post a 20m profit in accounts for the relegation season when they binned Rodgers. If they comply with the process and don’t whine too much (which they already appear to be doing!) they should start the next season (if promoted) with at least minus 4 points.

Re: Leicester
Isn't the City one much more complicated though?
They didn't overspend as such as far as I can tell
Their issues revolve around overinflated sponsorship, which they argue are offset by the risk of the investment turning a profit in the future
It's semantics. But it's important legally

Football at the highest level is a cesspit of corruption and cheating. These clubs need to be sent to the bottom of the pyramid. A 6 point deduction is nothing compared to the points amassed while cheating. In fact, clubs could factor in the possible points deduction and decide that cheating is economically viable in the long run.

Re: Leicester
City have been in profit since making a loss of circa 130m in the COVID season so they haven’t breached the 105m loss over 3 consecutive seasons threshold since those rules were in force.
Both Chelsea and City have good accountants ensuring that they appear within the limits.

I suspect the highly paid Man City lawyers will do a deal with the PL. To go to Court and lose would be a disaster for the lawyers in terms of income and reputation

Re: Leicester
Points deductions are such a sham, look at Everton who despite having points deducted look like they'll be okay to survive this season. So basically cheating over many years and building a good side through overspending gives them a better chance to fight to win points compared to sides who didn't cheat.
Even if city get 30 points deduction next season, they'll still survive and it means that out of 20 years competing at the top because of cheating, they have one season being punished then will be back winning trophies. And they'd still be able to compete for champions league etc in that season of punishment.
Surely they need to be punished with severe financial penalties and transfer embargoes to takeaway the benefits of them cheating.
The poster above is correct, it is a cesspit of corruption.

Re: Leicester
My basic understanding is that they are COMPLETELY different. Forest and Everton are about breaking PSR/FFP whilst the City case is about fraud. The PL are accusing individuals of fraudulent activity and when you listen to 'experts' they all say the burden of proof is VERY VERY high because the accusations are extremely serious and are criminal.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 9:27 amIsn't the City one much more complicated though?

So, the City case is always going to take much longer and is much more complicated.

This is true but they were charged about a year ago after a 5 year investigation, it is fair to think things should be moving quickerVegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 2:12 pmMy basic understanding is that they are COMPLETELY different. some of the charges are mental, grass too long for the youth team 10 years ago is one of them - I mean, wtfclaretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 3:31 pmThis is true but they were charged about a year ago after a 5 year investigation, it is fair to think things should be moving quicker
