Burnley divisive XI' would be a fun thing to do... Thread worthy!

Quoted from CoolClaret on the Weghorst thread.
I'll start (easy) Weghorst, for the miniscule amount of time he has actually worn the shirt he must have the highest number of critical posts per game played, also some positives and dragging managers judgement into the debate.
Danny Drinkwater a player on loan who's attitude/fitness/personality stunk the place out but he had some supporters.
Manager John Bond rightly or wrongly blamed for all our woes.

I'll start with the goalkeeper: Brian Jensen.

I'll add at both fullback positions, Graham Branch and the Brazilian Graham Branch - Vitinho
(for the record I like Branch and love Vitinho)

I was hoping that by nominating the somewhat hapless Jensen (fans' favourite because they could shout "Beeeeeeast") it would give young Trafford a break

Weird one but James O'connor was pretty divisive. I remember many a discussion about him being a headless chicken

He might have been hapless at times, but he was certainly world class at others.

A centre back pairing of bikey, whose best game for burnley was in a reading shirt, and Gibson.
And we couldn't have Bamford left out of the squad, cos he'd cry.

Yes, I know that I ought to be using another of a multiplicity of user names to answer myself, but think Jason shackell might be a better pick than Gibson. Let's face it, no-one in their right minds could think that Gibson was any better for us than dogs hit, whatever colour.

I don't really remember much division in the stands, but i only started watching us in the glory seeking days of 91/92.
Of long time players and the internet, I suspect our divisive players are mainly goalkeepers; we have given front row seats to such goalkeeping luminaries (and these are in our good years!) as Brian Jensen, Lee Grant, Gabor Kiraly, the perpetually injured Danny Coyne, Joe Hart, and prior to all that was the Marlon Beresford/Nic the Greek season where they tried to outdo each other in the 'I'm the worst goalkeeper', 'no, I'M the worst goalkeeper' contest in one game!

I’m on the positive side here - crucial player for us in the two promotions under Dyche. Strangely, many referred to him being one footed but nothing was ever said about Trippier or Arfield in that respect.

Chris Wood is a great shout he couldn't do anything right in some people's opinion.
From the distant dark days past the full back Andy Wharton, mot very good but because he had BFC tattooed on his knuckles to some he was the new Keith Newton

Hendrick and Dave Jones was only divisive online; they never/rarely got grief from the crowd.
The only player I remember being booed by their our fans was Tony Philiskirk, we've been quite genial in the main since about 1996.

Ian Moore must be in there - plenty liked him - I thought he was a dog chasing a balloon. I’d probably have him alongside Martin Paterson, another who, his goal at Reading aside, I didn’t think much of.
There’s loads who have really divided opinion and plenty who still continue to do so… Hendrick, Brownhill, Amdouni, Wood, Marney, Jones, Vitinho, Roberts, Trafford, Jensen, to name a few of the current / more recent ones.
Probably easier to name the ones that divide opinion than those that are universally seen as either great or pretty rubbish!

All honesty I think you could have used either/or. Alan Taylor or Steve Taylor, Alan Taylor (ex Norwich and WHU) had is fair share of detractors. Steve Taylor was fairly well liked first time around… but got plenty of stick, but not as much as when he returned for his second spell.
For me, from the same era… Paul Magee
Also Dean Marney (though few would admit to giving him stick now… he was one I could NEVER understand getting stick, but I always like midfielders who enjoyed doing the dirty work in midfield)
Adrian Randell… worshipped by some, seen as lazy and too casual by others
Dwight McNeal
(Among many).

Paterson was brilliant!! Work rate and quality, I thought he'd have had a decent Prem career but for injuries. He was similar to Shane Long

Edgar wasn’t very good. Wasn’t good enough as a centre half or centre midfield. 3 managers got rid of him from their squads.

Cracking thread as it’s about those most divisive players and not a criticism. Thinks Chris Eagles, Rocket Ron and Trafford should be in the squad at least.
Would love to see this as a poll for each position.

Jean Louis Valois.
I couldn't stand the fella. He was a flair player who won over the crowd with cheeky step-overs and jinking runs, but he wouldn't deliver that final ball - However, he scored good goals.

Harry Redknapp on Adrian Randall
“Adrian Randall at Bournemouth. He was a genius. Six foot tall, he used to glide over the pitch, juggling the ball on his foot. He could do it all. We used to play him against Tony Pulis in training and he’d tie him in knots, but he never really made it. He was so laid-back in his attitude. You just wanted to shake him, because this was a talent like I’d never seen.”

Interesting shout and one I’ve not heard before. Think he typified peak Dyche playing as a pressing 10, plenty of other factors as to why it’s gone downhill from there though too.

Randall was a serial shagger, he was often in the circulation nightclub on Friday nights looking for a bit of action.
