Jack Cork

Post by TheFamilyCat » Sun Mar 24, 2024 3:38 pm

Not a discussion on whether he should/shouldn't be playing or a conspiracy theory as to why he isn't.

Spotted this on a FB page and thought it was worth posting.

He seems to have had solid non-controversial career for many years and seems to have looked after himself.

Hope he continues in the game somehow after his playing days are over.

Very underrated player. If he was slightly more ambitious with his passing and a bit more athletic he would have been top class. Still had a great career and probably the best central midfielder I've seen at Burnley alongside Defour and Djemba Djemba. All 3 had the brilliant trait of never being rushed. They make it look a lot easier than it is.

To think he played for us as long ago as under Brian Laws era when he was on loan, and looked then an exceptional prospect. Seems to have gone on for ages, and sad his career seems to have stalled with us

He was also incredibly fortunate to not look like his dad...

Been a class act in every spell he has had with the club. I still don't think we've replaced him (I know some argue with still not replaced Deary). Found it strange that Dyche didn't play him more in the relagation season, and surprised he's not been used at all this season either. Yes, he may have lost a bit of pace, but his tactical nous, organisational skills and willingness to get on the ball are all missed.

Yes good point maybe something we don't know about behind the scenes.

I have absolutely nothing to base this on, but could see both him and Jay joining Westy in the MLS this summer.

If either of them join Charlotte FC with Westy and Arfield both there already it would make for a great pre-season friendly!

Still think he could do a Graham Alexander type role in front of our back two next year as a captain and an experienced leader on the pitch, would possibly help some of the young lads. IMO

Well someone needs to. Biggest mistake of many this season is not playing someone in that role. Little sign of it bring sorted though. Best I can think of is Bayer whem he's fit.

Hes the type of player that could go on till he's about 40 in a
bit part role at Championship level. We'd be really daft to lose him, I hope we offer him a coaching role, he's the type we want to keep at the club as long as possible.

He’s said a few times he has absolutely no interest in coaching or staying in the game when he retires from playing.

Not seen that, have you got a link to the quotes?

Just found this on youtube which suggests he was taking his badges quite recently.

We have not replaced him. He was so so so good for us. An underrated and consistently high performing player.

Great player who has been under-utilised in last 2 Premier League campaigns.

A marmite player who can disappear and dominate games depending on how he feels
Another player who gets better when he's not playing. That said I agree with a player coach role being a good idea, as it would have been with Ash Barnes, another who has taken his coaching badges

Accusing Cork of disappearing in games is lazy. I wouldn't call him marmite either, granted you yourself don't seem to like many of the players but I would say he was rated by a large majority of the fan base.

He may not be as good as some of the players he would be up against in this division but he doesn't hide.

He gave an interview at the end of last season, where he appeared to accept his days at the top level were behind him and he was keen to say he was happy enough being a voice around the dressing room.

He’s almost 35 and hasn’t nailed down a first team spot for 3 years and under two different managers. I suspect he and the staff know he’s done.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if he retired this summer. Doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who’d want to drop into League One/Two to prolong his playing days.

His reintroduction into the strating 11 last season coincided with us turning frustrating draws into convincing wins. Cork was aimportant to that champions nship success as anyone else. That he's been completely overlooked during our obvious struggles this season is a shame. We'll never know if he could have helped to steady the ship witg more minites on the grass.

Cork started last season, lost his place in January and had never really reestablished himself since.

A Jack Cork of 5 years ago absolutely walks into our team. Genuine PL class when younger, but you could see last time we were at this level he was struggling with the pace of the game now. Been a fantastic player for us but right to move him on in the summer IMO.

Not sure he's underrated, but he's always been a class act. In his prime, he was too good for us, so quite a coup to sign him when we did.

It was actually after that period. Barnes said he would really like to stay in the game and coach while Cork said he didn’t.

I stand corrected. Advancing years and the mind plays tricks I guess. I'm off to rock in the corner of a room.
